I love that picture

I think Miss Karen looks beautiful in this picture. I love that dress she is wearing. She is a pretty lady anyway, but that dress just accents her beauty.

She was ill

Everyone talks about how beautiful she was physically... I think it's awful that thats the defining characteristic of her. People say she has a beautiful voice and she was so pretty, no one says what a great person she was, no one talks about her personality. She was ANOREXIC, she was battling with her looks and it KILLED her, and still everyone comments on her looks, as if they really were as important as she thought they were. It's sort of sick

i think people have commented so much on her looks, because that is what killed her! people just want to make it clear that they were not one of the people who killed karen carpenter. the people who killed karen carpenter were the millions of people who made jokes about karen and her brother being married, and how ************ she was, and how mickey mousish they were!
karen was beautiful, and i just agree with Dionne Warwick (changed to Warwick as the person who said this....Admin) in wondering what it was karen saw through HER eyes when she looked into the mirror.
although karen was beautiful on the outside and her voice was the greatest of her time, all of her friends and remaining family members simply comment on what a decent person she was. dorthy hammil said that she was ur friend before u were really friends...and thats not a trait that too many humans have.
enjoy her voice ellen, it's what she would want us to enjoy. not her looks...or even her wonderful personality....just her voice.

It would have been wonderful to have known her and be able to comment on things other than her looks and her voice. But Ellen, the fact is that of all the millions of people in the world there is a very, very small percentage that every had the chance to get to really know her. So people comment on the only things they know about her. She was beautiful and had the voice of an angel. I believe that she was a wonderful person too but sadly, I never met her.

This is one of the nicest pictures I have ever seen of karen.... and thats saying something as I am absolutely obbsessed with her lol. She is an absolutely fantastic singer and from what I have read a great person too. I would have loved to have gotten to know her but in someways I think we can all learn from her mistakes.

she's really beautyfull

After reading some of the things said here, I filled with such overwhelming emotion. Being a person with an eating disorder myself, I can only imagine the pain and suffering she went through. People can look happy and content on the outside, but be an emotional wreck on the inside. I have been there many times myself...I would have really liked to know Karen, and maybe we could have helped each other....I love you Karen.

About Karens beauty

Of course anyone can see that Karen was beautiful and we all know what a wonderful angelic voice she had and you can't help but notice that, but you can also see the beauty of her soul just by looking in her eyes and her wonderful spirit comes through when she sings and it is as if her voice just pierces your soul when you hear it and you can just sense the beauty of her spirit. Also, from the things I have read about her, she seemed to be such a caring and giving person, perhaps sometimes to the point of neglecting her own needs. She was definatley not a selfish person. I believe she had a heart bigger than the ocean and I will always adore her. I was severely abused as a child and her voice was the only thing that could calm me down and make me feel safe. Thank you Karen, you are my favorite human and I will love you forever.

In defense of Ellen

Yes, she was beautiful. We all know this . So can we please stop harping about it and talk about what a great person she was and still is? Why can't we talk about how nice and wonderful she was and what a talented singer and drummer she was? Everyone seems to forget now that she was the driving force behind The Carpenters and that if not for her Richard would have been nothing.

And SW, to say that it was people's comments on her weight that caused her to die of anorexia (in my opinion though she died of a broken heart) is to ignore the facts. The facts are that she was victimized by those closest to her and by the ones she should have been able to trust the most. I will not name names or accuse anyone of anything. But let's be clear here. Her anorexia was not the direct result of the press or the media but caused by the people in her life who should have been her safe place from the world.

I have to agree with JennyO.T.
You also are a very special person, and you mean very much to the people around you. And I am sure Karen would have loved to know you as well !
Please take care, and remember that you are a beautiful and unique person, and I know Karen would want you to get better most of all for yourself, but also for your family and friends.

C'mon yall

What's so wrong with saying she was beautiful? That's what you do when you look at a picture. We don't know Karen, as much as i'd like to think Karen had a great personality i really don't know and neither do you, so if people want to say she's beautiful let them. SHE'S BEAUTIFUL SHE"S BEAUTIFUL SHE'S BEAUTIFUL. o yea and by the way, nobody killed Karen but herself, those close to her did nothing wrong and neither did anybody else, you can't blame anybody but Karen for what she did to her. In a way, it wasn't Karen's fault either, but it wasn't anybody else's.
