Hi Everyone,
My name is Sanford, I am 49 and live in KY, and until just a few days ago I hadn’t listened to a Carpenters song since 1983. It’s not that after Karen’s passing that I didn’t care for their music anymore, it is just after Karen died when I heard a song by them I just wanted to sit down & cry. And it was (like I mentioned before) a few days ago I was in my car going somewhere and just had the radio tuned to an oldies station (mostly just for the noise) when Close To You started playing.
As soon as I heard the first note I knew what it was, I pulled the car into a parking area & just sat and listened. And it seemed for a few moments that I was back in 1970, and that I had forgotten just how good a Carpenters tune made me feel while I was listening to it. And in case anyone is wondering , I wasn’t sitting there crying while I was listening, they say time heals pain & I guess that is true.
Anyway when the song finished playing I start driving, and thinking I am going to have to dig my Carpenters albums when I get home and do some listening. That is when something else hit me, all my Carpenters music is on vinyl! Not only had I not listened to any Carpenters music over a period of 25 years, I hadn’t bought any Carpenters CDs either!
So before I went home I stopped by a music store and bought the 35th Anniversary Gold CD, and on the home I went. As soon as I got in the house I opened it up and into the CD player it went. And as I sat down & the notes of the first tune washed over me, I had a feeling I hadn’t felt in years, which was the absolute joy of hearing Karen’s rich voice.
So after listening to the CD, I starting wondering if there was much on the internet about them. And much to my surprise (And happiness) seems like there is quite a bit. So that is how I came to find Leadsister ( I like that it fits Karen) So here I am, a lost Carpenters fan who has finally found his way back home.

Hi Sanford!!!
Welcome to the forum! Your story is exactly the same as mine! I couldn't listen to the Carpenters after Karen's passing... it took a long time.... 2003 to be exact... it was just too hard for me. And like you, I happened to be driving when "Top of the World" came on the radio and I had to pull over and just "listen". After that I started buying all the Carpenters CD's and rebuilt my collection from vinyl to CD and that's when I discovered Leadsister too!! You'll love it here.... everyone is great!
By the way... I'm Jayne from Illinois!

Hi Sanford. I'm Dave from SC. I had an out of the
blue reawakening to Karen's awesome voice and The Carpenters music 4 years ago with
Superstar. It seems to be somewhat of a common theme with we, the pop-rock old guard here.

And I also well remember when their music first hit the airwaves and was there after and often heard everywhere. Welcome to the forum, Karen's special place.

Hi, Sanford.
I am also your age and also couldn't listen to Karen's voice after 1983 for the pain. But I gradually(after 20 yrs or so) began re-investigating Carpenters music and also found this site.

I also met Dave here(DR Drummer) and we now live together, enjoying many, many hours of Carpenters music and videos together. Karen keeps bringing people together...one way or another. I swear her spirit really enjoys that.
Anyway....WELCOME!!!!!!

At times it can seem boundless.
