Hello, my name is John. I have been a Carpenters fan, since the very beginning, 1969! I've owned every single record, starting with "Offering", and now have everything on CD (except some Japanese compilations), including the great Karaoke CD, with original orchestrations! I saw the Carpenters, 6 times, live. I am married, and have three sons, ages 25, 22 and 12. My other favorite female singers are: Rosemary Clooney, Shirley Jones, Doris Day, Petulia Clark and Olivia Newton John. Oh, and I have high hopes for American idol, Kelly Clarkson, who appears to be able to actually SING! Although, I like others, as well. My two favorite singers are Karen Carpenter and Julie Andrews. Great choices for favorites, huh? One's dead and one can't sing anymore. But, no matter! Thank God for all those glorious recordings.

Regards,

John smile.gif

Hi, John! Welcome to the boards. I think you're the first poster to have been a fan since the very beginning - all I have to say is wow!

Hello John! Welcome!

wow... a fan since the beginning! That's great. And so lucky to have not only seen one... but SIX live concerts? I would love to hear any stories behind the concerts and where and when they were. Feel free to post in the general forum!

I voted for Kelly Clarkson ever since the show she sang Respect! What a power-house voice on that girl!

THanks for joining and hope to see you around posting! oh.... where about in Virginia? I was born and raised in Norfolk.... but up in CT now smile.gif

Thanks for the welcomes! I live in Northern, VA. Right in the line of fire, of the sniper! What a nightmare that is. I'm surprise that I am the only one who's been a fan since the Carpenters came on the scene. It's been so long, now, that I almost can't remember when Carpenters' tunes haven't been a part of my life. Gosh, there is so much I can relay about them (from the time-period, that is. I was never one for reading up on their personal lives). I even met them, once. I can remember, vividly, gasping at how thin Karen was, during those final concert appearances (of course, we hadn't even heard of the word anorexia); and how my phone rang all day, with friends calling to console me, on the day she died (that's how much of a fan I was/am).
