Brevity is the soul of wit or so they say so I'll try to keep this short. I'm Steve from Illinois about 300 miles south of Chicago. Started buying albums in high school when Close to You came out. I am a baritone and sang Rainy Days and Mondays solo in the high school choir. My voice is an octive lower but I merge with KC's pretty well.
Karen got me through a lot of the "I just want to be friends" heartbreaks during that time. After 1984 her music was put on my back burner up until a couple of years ago. This is where the story gets a little crazy and if you think I need to be committed I'll understand.
Here goes: I had a lucid dream and Karen was in it. We were sitting on the floor of a living room, listening and singing to 3 specific John Denver songs. In addition to KC, John and Jim Croce are my favorite singers, all now passed to the other side.
After singing the songs she looked at me, smiled, and I woke up. One of those dreams where you wake up and for a moment can't distinguish reality and your dream.
Since then when life gives me those "let's just be friends" disappointments, I run to the memory of that dream listen to her voice and it's like I'm in the company of a friend who understands disappointment and is with me on my level.
I'd compare it to a deep friendship.
I've been lurking on this site for a few weeks and you seemed like a group of people who might understand this. I certainly would tell no one else.
Besides 'Make Believe It's Your First Time" another favorite is "Look to Your Dreams". I dream of a time we can all live in peace.
Peace to You
Steve

Hi Steve,
I'm Dave from SC and can well identify with your Karen reawakening. I had an unsual early morning Karen occurrence a few years ago and when I never expected it.
She certainly has that way about her, that's for sure.
Welcome to the forum.

I love everyone here, I think you'll find that everyone is very understanding and very knowledgable (Not so much me-I can't even begin to compete with some of the memebers here). We all share one thing-a deep love for Karen!!!!

Welcome, Steve!!
We certainly understand all aspects of what you have to say....from putting Karen on the back burner, to re-awakening to her again. Who knows what people on the other side are capable of?
Regardless......Karen's voice keeps touching more and more people and bringing comfort and love. Believe it, cos she brought Dave-0 and I together on this website, as well as Boo and Bruce.
Yes...those wild dreams with Karen seemingly so real....makes one wonder..........
WELCOME!!!!

Hi Steve and welcome! I did somewhat the same thing as you did...discovered this incredible music in 1973, and it never occurred to me that there was anything before that, nor anything after 1983. I lost all my albums many years ago because of a broken water pipe, and at the time couldn't find/afford so many replacements. So the Carpenters (and many others, sob) were on my back burner, too.
I discovered this site in February of this year, and shortly thereafter had a dream (or was I partly awake?) where Karen said my name out loud into my bedroom and it woke me up. I actually sat up and looked around for her. Her voice, singing or speaking, is unmistakable. I'd been obsessing about something I'd recently read, and the message I "felt" that night was that I should stop worrying about her and go to sleep. (I had this happen one other time, sometime after my father died; he said my name as well.) So no, I don't think you need to be committed! I guess you'd have to take me and a bunch of other people here with you.
I keep hoping she'll come back, but it seems she's quite busy with so many dreams to visit.
Anyway, I'm having a wonderful time here on this site, and you will, too!

To everyone
Thank you for making me feel welcome and not nuts.
Jayne, I live in the Marion-Carbondale area near the Shawnee National Forest.
Dave from SC, thanks for sharing that you had an experience also. I don't remember a lot of experiences from the first second to the last second, let alone dreams, but I remember everything about this one. You have some great photos on your post
Summer, thanks for sharing your dream too. This is really wild and gives me a lot of hope.
And your right Cheryl, we don't know what we will be capable of when we get to the other side. There is something about the art of music and more specifically Karen's voice that takes me to a good place. I recorded the Made in America and Voice of the Heart albums onto a cassette years ago. I found that a couple of weeks ago, put in the car and have not been able to take it out of the player. I get in the car, Karen starts singing, and I'm in heaven.
Thanks RobinB and chantelle for also making me feel wanted here.
I feel like a lost puppy who finally made it home

Steve,
I know exactly where you are!!!!! You're way downstate!!! About 6 hours south of me!!!!! My sister used to live in Olney and I thought that was far, but Carbondale is right at the tip of Illinois.
So, welcome to a fellow Illinoisan! At least I hope you are a Cardinals fan and not a Cubs fan! LOL!

Hi Steve,
I'm one of the UK representatives. A lifelong Carpenters fan also. I, too, also like Croce, and absolutely loved "I'll have to say I love you in a song" I pretty much love harmony/counterharmony, and have been a life long Beach Boys fan also.
Fair to say Karen is my fave female vocalist and Brian Wilson takes the trophy for the chaps, or guys in your neck of the woods!

Hello Steve
and welcome to Leadsister! Glad you joined us here. I've had a few dreams... one Karen was in and we were on a beach. A couple others Richard was in and I happened to run into him and he invited me over to his house to have dinner with the family and was sharing a bunch of Carpenters goodies including family photos.
Enjoy your stay!

Hello Steve
. I belong to the group of "youngies" who discovered Karen's voice and through her has been able to make such good and beloved friends
...I'm Mafer, 17, from Guayaquil, Ecuador and weeeeeel.....I have enjoyed the carpenters for two years (three on June)
.......You are not the only one who dreams about her, I have dreamt about her a couple of times and hell yeaah! it is that kind of dreams you wish to live and never wake up
John Denver is also on my fav's list...I love "Annie's song" and every time I listen "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" I remember my father's childhood
....Lately, I have been listening to Jim Croce, and I agree with Silv on "I have to say I love you in a song", love that song a lot.....But, I think one of my favs is "Operator" "Time In A Bottle" or "Don't Mess Around With Jim"...."Bad Bad Leroy Brown" reminds me of my younger broher, who's 12 and does not know the meaning of NO!!
Glad u found us, enjoy the site and believe me, you'll learn lots bout KC and of course will find people who feels about Karen the same way as you
