The Carpenters And Religious Songs

Does anyone else agree that Karen's voice was perfect for Religious-themed/Gospel music? Maybe it was in their future to make a religious album? I, for one, loved the religious songs on their Christmas albums Christmas Portrait and An Old Fashioned Christmas. It's very emotional hearing her sing about such things. I've never heard anyone sing religious music so beautifully. But Karen sings everything better than anyone else. She's the greatest of all-time, of course!
What do you all think?

Yes, her voice would really fit religious / spiritual music or hymns. When I hear her sing songs like Silent Night or Christ is Born, it just sounds perfectly, heavenly beautiful. If she had ever done an album of Christian hymns, it would probably have brought alot of people who would listen or beleive in Christianity to tears. It just sounds so peaceful and like a perfect worship.

I agree, Leanne. Her angelically, beautiful singing has indeed brought me to tears. I can't even express how beautiful it is.

I love her version of Ave Maria, but haven't heard others. I also like "Little Altar Boy" but I doubt that falls under anyone's idea of gospel music lol.
She could sing the school lunch menu and it would be angelic IMHO.

Well we do have an example of Karen singing "We'll be right back after we go to the bathroom" and that sounded pretty glorious.
She could sing anything and make it pretty.

"Love Is Surrender" was written by Ralph Carmichael who was a Christian songwriter and choir director. I believe this may have been a song that Karen and Richard sang when they performed in choirs in high school. They changed one line, "You must surrender to His will..." and made a pop song out of it...
"Top of the World" has sometimes been sung as a religious song, and I have at least one recording by a Christian group singing in on their album...
I never thought of "You" as a religious song, but someone has posted a video on YouTube, which made me look at the song differently:

Wow, a very interesting link. I used this song (You) to make a video tribute to my son. The lyrics are versatile.
As for the Carpenters Christmas religious songs, they totally melt my heart. In a much different way than the rest of the Carpenters songs. I don't know if it's because it's because I'm caught up in the Christmas spirit or because it's spiritual. Maybe it's both.

I think Karen is SO good at interpreting songs ... both the musical flow and the lyrical content ... because she had her finger, or more appropriately, her voice spot on the emotional strings of any song she sang.
One emotional tug from Karen and it felt like a direct link to the heart of the listener.
I think this emotive side of Karen is what sets her so far apart from other singers.

Not even Stevie Wonder's?? Well, maybe it doesn't count because it's not the SAME song.

I've never heard this song before! How did I miss it all this time?
I just listened with my eyes closed and the volume up. I didn't watch the video yet.
OMG, hearing this....it's like...NEW music! I'm SOOOO HAPPY!!! And sad. And happy! (How does Karen DO that to a person? Still!)
for bringing the thread to the top.
