Cher Singing "a Song For You"

I've always liked Cher, and I find her voice strangely appealing, but this version does not compare to Karen's. FWIW...

Song For You

A Song For You has been covered by many different artists, but the only other version I've ever heard that I liked as much as Karen's was Ray Charles recording of it. So many other artist sing the song like they're just giving another performance, but Karen and Ray both sang it like they meant it. The interesting thing about these two records was that Karen sang her version at the beginning of her career, while Ray sang the song at the end of his.

What's with Cher singing songs done by the Carpenters? I've heard her sing "We've Only Just Begun", "Superstar", and now I've heard her sing "A Song For You". She must've been a fan!

It's OK...but Cher looks ridiculous...singing such a heartfelt, emotional song dressed up like a Bollywood diva?! It's like a Halloween costume and it distracts from the poignant lyrics...

Karen's version is still the only version to make me cry every time, guarantee...whenever I throw myself a "pity party" I play Karen's ASFY cry.gif

Cher had recorded Superstar before the Carpenters did, it's a bonus track on the cd edition of her 1969 album 3614 Jackson Highway.

I liked her try on it... she has such a ROUGH phrasing style, like she's YELLING to the public, that is so MASCULINE, I like it!

Cher over-sings it and takes away the beauty of the song, plus she's dressed like she's not sure if she's in a Bollywood movie or working in a Turkish brothel.

It's TV... sure she over-sings it comparing to Karen but they have totally different singing styles.
