Weight Karen Don't Do It!

Is a love song's Photo Is a love song 02 Oct 2007

When did Karen start being Anorexic? Or when did she start worrying about her weight? (probably her whole life she battled those inner demons, right?)

Throughout the late 60s to almost late 70s Karen looked healthy. Only in the 80 did Karen start looking gaunt.

Richard said it started getting bad, and showing, in 1975.

Apparently in late 1973 Karen saw a performance of herself on the Bob Hope Show and told Richard that she was going to 'do something about it'.

It's clear that she did, because by the time the Budokan concert was filmed in late May 1974, she was looking what most people would say is 'ideal' or 'healthy' for a 24 year old woman.

By October 1974, Richard began to notice something was wrong, because at his birthday celebration Karen didn't eat very much, especially the sweets. By mid 1975 most people in the Carpenters camp were surprised at her appearance. Very thin, but not yet gaunt.

She looked so lovely and beautiful on the Bob Hope show. I wish that I can go back in time and tell Karen this. sad.gif

I thought so too, Marty.

Also I forgot to mention that Karen felt that she was 'pudgy' in high school, so she got down to 120 and stayed there until 1973, when her weight rose naturally. You can see in the earliest Carpenters photos she is quite slender.

I have no idea what would possess her to think that she was overweight or pudgy. She was what a young, beautiful, healthy woman should look like!

I actually could see what Karen meant when she said "I am going to do something about it". Sorry! whistling.gif shutup.gif

I thought she looked great in 1975! Very supermodel skinny! Maybe too thin, but she looked very "today" do you know what I mean? She reminded me of what you see in music videos today. Very good looking!

If she could have stayed the weight she was in May 1974 that would have been perfect.

I bet if Karen was alive today she'd tell us how she's definitely over her whole "weight issue" and that if she could go back she'd spend less time worrying about that and focusing on her career. As most people who suffer from Anorexia do say that once they reach a certain age. I am not at that stage in my life yet...but I know it'll come.

She'd tell the ladies on The View how much she values life now.
