Does anyone know what date the Carpenters played Bangor, Maine? Sometime around 1972?

I've seen the list of tour dates somewhere but can't remember where. Didn't someone post the list here in the forum? I can't seem to find it. Sakura is usually great at finding stuff so hopefully she or someone else can be of help.

They performed at the Bangor Auditorium on October 18, 1973. The previous evening they played at the Exposition Building in Portland. Those were the only appearances for the Carpenters in the State of Maine.

An article from the Portland Press Herald stated: It was Carpenters' night at the Expo and the sellout crowd of 3500 lapped up every note. Pop singers Karen and Richard Carpenter gave the audience their $5.50's worth Wednesday in a lengthy, lively, imaginative concert marred slightly by the terrible acoustics of the Exposition Building.

While the Carpenters zowied the crowd, their personal manager, Sherwin Bash was on alert near the front of the stage. Refusing to let the fans take photographs from directly in front of the stage, he and road manager Mark "Bear" Rudolph spent most of the time hustling those who tried and glaring at those who looked like they might.

At one point Bash grabbed Press Herald Photographer Alice Brown by the arm and muscled her away from in front of the stage saying "one more time, and you're out!" He explained that he didn't want photographers blocking the vision of those who sat nearest the five foot stage.

Those were a few excerpts from the article. A new 9000 seat arena opened in Portland in 1977, it would have been great to have seen the Carpenters perform in the new building (which now is outdated!) instead of the old Expo which is still used for trade shows and high school basketball.
