Richard Carpenter's 1983 Good Morning,...

NedNickerson's Photo NedNickerson 24 Sep 2007

Here's two interviews of Richard and one with Harold and Agnes when they appeared on Good Morning, America on November 2-3, 1983, in conjunction with the release of VOICE OF THE HEART...

It's kind of chilling to hear Agnes talk about how she found Karen collapsed that morning 9 months earlier... I didn't understand everything she said prior to that - something about a taco... I didn't catch what she said before that...

I don't understand how they're able to sit there and talk so calmly about Karen...
I would have been squalling my eyes out...

Agnes was so in control of her emotions publicly. Like all of the Carpenter family was. Richard appeared to always be a rock, as did Karen in the public eye.

Poor Harold though. He could only muster one line and that was it. He's the one that appeared most likely to break up, like at the American Music Awards, he looked so choked up. (Agnes looked like she was gonna kill the camera man who was filming in their faces though!)

Yeah, I've seen it. It's hard to watch, and you got those who say that their parents cared nothing about Karen. I mean, honestly, how does anyone have the nerve to say such a thing? Her parents loved her! What are these people wizards, that magically know something because they saw it on television or read it in a book? I wonder if these people had a falling apple from an apple tree hit them on the head or something! I believe everyone here knows the truth, but it's just annoying to hear the variations from people who don't know alot. Honestly, none of us do, really. We just know what we know, but I'm not big on knowing things that I shouldn't, you know? It's none of my business.

Agnes and Richard do a good job of keeping themselves together, but Harold does appear to be having a hard time. You can just tell by looking at him. That's a really sad and hard thing to watch. sad.gif

Thank you for the post, Ned.
