Personal Karen Info

JadensMom02's Photo JadensMom02 23 Sep 2007

I don't know what made me think of this, but I wonder if Karen's drivers license will ever surface on ebay? Things like that have got be out there somewhere... maybe Rich still has 'em? (I kind of hope so...)

I know we've all wondered about KC's diary (which brings up an ethical dilemma for me, personally - to read or not to read, that would be the question!)... I used to have two very special and bittersweet photos of Karen taken in Lenox Hill hospital, but these were destroyed when my basement flooded a few years back. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif In one of the photos, she was sitting up in her hospital bed, smiling, wearing a white nightgown, and holding something ( I think it was a coffee cup)... In the other, she was standing up in front of the wall, which had a bunch of greeting cards tacked up on it (I was glad to see that), and she was kind of shrugging her shoulders and holding her arms up as if to say, "How do I look?" I always wondered who took these photos... Levenkron maybe? Or John Bettis when he visited? or maybe Christina Ferrare? I'm trying to think who else visited KC in Lenox Hill...

Karen's social sec. number was on her death certificate... so I guess if anyone really wanted to, they could do a public records search to anser the question about whether KC ever got any speeding tickets! tongue.gif

I dunno... part of me feels like we all oughtta just let go a bit, and leave certain stones unturned out of respect for Karen. Of course the other part of me just wants to know everything I can! unsure.gif Anyone else ever feel torn like that? Like, where do you draw the line between curious and morbid? Hmmm...

Yeah, some things are best left unknown, Jena. It's kind of painful to hear that her death certificate is so easily to obtain. I can't even read it. It's too painful to bear, really. sad.gif

By the way, we should remember her for the good things, not the bad things! smile.gif

You're totally right, Marty, and I do indeed... It's not that I dwell on the darker side of things, I just want every bit of information and memorabilia I can get a hold of. I especially appreciate the photos, etc. that show us "the real Karen" or "the private Karen" - since we so often get the posed photographs or the publicity appearances... I just ADORE the photos like the ones recently posted of KC at the car show with Rich... or of Karen holding Deb's baby in New Haven, etc.

Like you said in the beginning, i think it's better to just leave well enough alone. We already know a lot about Karen and what kind of person she was, why do we have to know every little thing? I don't think we really have the right anyways.

I'd love to see if she had speeding tickets or anything. Just because it makes her seem so much more human. I don't see anything wrong about wanting to know what she was REALLY like. laugh.gif

Did Karen keep a journal/diary ?

If she did and it would provide an insight into her struggle, then I think it would benefit from being in the public domain.

Other than that, I'm not sure what good it would do.

With regards to finding out about speeding fines and other similar trivia, I think that would be finding out just for the sake of having some new information. I can understand the desire to want to know as much as possible about someone such as Karen Carpenter, but there has to be a reason for it.
