What Other Music Would You Bring?

Lets pretend you've been exiled to a deserted tropical island with electricty for one year. You are allowed to bring music by three artists other than the CARPENTERS. What music would you bring and why? Food will be provided! No alcohol! Sorry, my rules!
My selections:
THE LOVIN SPOONFUL - they put me in a good mood, alot of daydreaming will be going on!
FRANKIE VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS - favorite group from the sixties, makes me think about girls!
38 SPECIAL - I grew up in the south, only group other than the Carpenters that I've met in person!
Honorable mention: The Beach Boys, of course. Electricity provided for the CD player only. I'll figure out how to get power to the island at a later time!

Hmmm... it'd be an eclectic mix, for sure, and I'd have to fight for four: Carole King ("Tapestry"), 10,000 Maniacs ("Our Time in Eden"), Rich Mullins ("Songs"), and Stevie Wonder ("Songs in the Key of Life").
I SAID it would be eclectic... just like me!

Brucey like him some Carole King and Natalie Merchant.
I like "Our Time in Eden" but I think my favorite of theirs is "In My Tribe"
"Don't Talk" and What's the Matter Here" are such incredibly powerful songs.

The only other artist I would need is Loreta Lynn

Hmmm, I know, it was a toss-up. I love the "MTV Unplugged" version of both those songs, too... I thought their use of cello and bassoon was sooooo over-the-top cool in that concert (partly because I played the bassoon in college, and few people realize what a cool instrument it is!)
A cool story: I went to a Natalie concert when I was 19, and she had her hair up in a clip, and the audience started cheering for her to let her hair down, so she said, "I'll only do it if every woman in this hall lets her hair down, too" so we all did, and since I was in the front row, she pointed to me and said, "Yes, like this young woman in the front. And such lovely hair, too." Sooooo...... that's my big claim to fame: Natalie Merchant once sort of told me I had nice hair.

The "Unplugged" CD was one of my more memorable purchases when I was stationed in Korea. Every week we pored over the new arrivals at the BX, I almost jumped when I saw that one arrive!
I liked her including the Patty Smith song "Because the Night" on that one as well, great piano.....

Cool story! I'd love to catch her act sometime. I have a Laserdisc of a bunch of the Maniacs eaarlier stuff, she was pretty wild and crazy in the beginning.

OH, yeah! That recording has become a classic. I think it gets more airplay nowadays than any Maniacs tune did in their heyday!

Yeah... she was sort of a "whirling dirvish" of sorts. And I read once that in the beginning, she used to get on stage and just sing jibberish along with the band, no lyrics at all - just sounds. Good thing she started actually penning some lyrics after a while, or someone might have had her committed.

Two definates would be:
Beatles/paul McCartney
Beach Boys/Brian Wilson
The third option changes on a daily basis. Today, I would pick Showtunes: - )

Besides the Carpenters I'd have to bring the following:
Hi-Infidelity - REO Speedwagon
Tapestry - Carole King
Greatest Hits - Boz Scaggs
