Hey, Jay!!!!
You're not that far from us here in SC.
I LOVE books!!!!! In fact...I read so fast, I go thru books like water.
Enjoy the Smoky Mtns,,,they're GREAT!!!! Cherokee is beautiful, but really commercial. Too bad, but that's how they survive, I guess.
I've always been fascinated by Pompeii, too. But then....most history fascinates me.
Great job finding Carpenters photos, by the way.

Yeah Jay!!!! Finally we get to "meet" you!!!!! I'll try not to butcher your, you're and their and there, but once in awhile I slip up. You have accomplished so much and you should be quite proud and give yourself a pat on the back! I've never been to Virginia, but would love to visit someday. I'm quite a history buff..... especially Civil War history.
Anyway, welcome to the forum and glad you decided to introduce yourself.

Cheryl,
Thanks, and I'm a NC native - grew up 50 miles from Myrtle Beach SC, so very very familiar with tobacco, BBQ, pigs, etc.
My parents got married in Dillon, SC.
VA has been my 'home' for 13 yrs.

I wish I could travel more, but I work full-time and I do not like to fly. So far, I have been to NC-VA-SC-MD-NJ-NYCity-ARIZONA-NMexico-GA, FL. I'm planning to go to the Great Smoky Mountains in NC/TN later this month. I would really love to see ancient POMPEII, Italy before I leave the earth.
Jay! Nice to FINALLY meet you! I'm in Knoxville, TN near the Great Smoky Mtns National Park! Hope you enjoy your visit here!

I was just in Norfolk, Va in August for my high school reunion!
I've been trying to figure out Indians in that area b/c my Great-Great-Great Grandfather was an Indian Chief. My Grandmother remembers him as a little girl. He would ride up on his horse with an Indian headdress and necklaces. She said he rode up one day and then left and that was the last she saw of him. There's no record of him unfortunately and she doesn't know what tribe. But it was in the Wilson County area. If you have any ideas that would be great!
I was a member of Randy's group too. Toward the end of it when he decided to stop running it.
Nice to "officially" meet you

Hey, Jay! Nice to put a "face" to the man behind so many great rare Carpenters photos on LeadSister!! You've been a true blessing in that way, and I'm sure I speak for many when I say "Thanks!!!"

the graduate school hours took a lot of patience.
That's why I didn't become a librarian.

I used to own Carpenters book-covers in school and a "Weekly-Reader" with the Carpenters on the front. Who remembers those?
I've seen them on ebay!
Glad you FINALLY introduced yourself! It's an interesting introduction to read, too.

I'd say "welcome to the forum Jay", but you've been around here longer than I have!
Thanks for formally introducing yourself, and for all the great photos you share with us!
I joined Randy's Newville Avenue mailing list in 1996 too.

Social ? who me?
Off topic? Never
Party? Well, when D.C. updates it's 'party' venues, let me know.
