Carpettes
Is a love song
24 Aug 2007
I heard ON THIS FORUM that The Carpenters had other singers with them on some of their tracks (like on "All you get from love is a love song") and they were called Carpettes or something.
Who were they, and what songs were they in?
Also, the song "Love is Surrender" is that all just Karen and Richard or is there other people in there too? What year was that song recorded in?
Just some random questions,
Andrew

According to the Made In America album, the Carpettes consisted of Karen Carpenter, Carolyn Dennis, Stephanie Spruilli, and Maxine Waters Willard. They sang background vocals on Touch Me When We're Dancing(only Karen and Carolyn) and Strength of A Woman. The background singers on AYGFLIALS were not called the Carpettes but consisted of Karen & Richard Carpenter, Julia Tillman, Carlena Willians, and Maxine Willard.
To answer your second question, Love is Surrender is all Karen & Richard. It was recorded in 1970 and is on the Close To You album.

What about Siedah Garrett?? I read somewhere that she was among the backing vocals on Made In America, so she wasn't?

I think I remember reading in a different thread that she sang backing vocals on Lovelines.
Edit 11:41 pm: I searched with the name Siedah Garrett and I found the post by cam83 from a different thread. "Siedah Garrett was used to ghost background vocals to KISS ME THE WAY YOU DID LAST NIGHT, after Karen had died. She did a great job!!" (I copied and pasted this, I have no idea how to quote from a different thread or if it's even possible.)

Oh, okay CarpentersObsessed...I didn't know what AYGFLIALS meant? I was reading it as one word and I was like aygfials? I don't remember a song titled weirdly like that!
Explain to me what "Ghost Background" is? I haven't heard that song I don't know what that means.
So let me get this strait...did Karen die in the process of making another album? "Ghost Background vocals after Karen died"? I am confused...
Help me out here!

Randy Schmidt contacted with her. She wrote back;
....I did some "ghost recording" after Karen's death, on some of her previously recorded tracks that her brother was producing. It was only one or two songs, many years ago. ....

So, she recorded songs that Karen recoded years ago? But what is "Ghost Background/Recording/Vocals"?

Exactly what it means. Siedah would step in, do some background vocal overdubs, after Karen passed away. So any songs that RC wanted done...she would step in and do the background vocals to Karen's lead...to complete the unfinished song.
