In the 1970's, there was a television program called "This Is Your Life", which would profile celebrities and bring their friends, family and coworkers on to share stories about them. The celebrities that were featured were always surprised to find themselves on a show, it was a set-up. Karen and Richard appeared in 1971 (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Good grief...I remember seeing this show when it came on. I actually had a cassette of it I made(but lost it awhile back.) It was really fun to watch, cos they both acted like they really weren't OLD enough to be on the show.

Wasn't Herb Alpert involved in the setup somehow?

I like when they get surprised! Karen is like "WHAT?? You're kidding!!" and Richard says "We're too young for this!!"
Karen is cute in this, she has this smile that is just so extra joyous and innocent. Sweet. I like when Agnes brings out her baseball mitt and she goes "Oh mom!!" and then hides it. Also when she complains about gym - "We never played ball, they just made us run alot!"

This Is Your life was on television back in the Fifties and Sixties, then reappeared briefly in the early Seventies. Here's a Wikipedia article that explains it better. FYI, the article is wrong about when it aired in the Seventies. It was actually 1971, not 1972.

Carpenters' appearance was taped in December of 1970 and aired in 1971, I read this in Japanese.
The DVD also has Ralph Edwards in '80s. Did it repeat in '80s?
Thanks to my friend, I could watch this before.
I had waited for Japaense release, but this has not been released. When I was confirming pre-order of Les Paul DVD where Richard appeared at Japanese net shop, they said it would be delivered in September. So I ordered it and with This Is Your Life and Bob Hope Special with comedy part by Karen & Richard, which deleted songs at American net shop a week ago. They sent out Les Paul soon. Although they said they are in stock, they sent me delay email again and again, and finally I received This Is Your Life and Bob Hope Special!!
I am happy that I can watch young Karen & Richard,
and Richard playing the AIR guitar and scatting!!
I love to hear Richard talk about overdubbing and harmony.
