In the most stunning part, half way through it, " can't I pretend that I'm locked in the bend of your embrace " it sounds very old timey, and I was wondering Is that really Karen ?

Actually, the lyric is:

The song was a big-band hit back in the Forties. It was one of the Andrews Sisters biggest hits.

The background vocals on I Can Dream, Can't I? were provided by Sue Allen, Jerry Whitman, Allan Davies, Gene Merlino. I don't know if Karen and Richard sang along with them or not. But since the background singers consisted of three men and one woman, I would assume that Karen did sing along with them, to give a fuller sound...

I don't think she did. I think that sound was created uniquely by the backing singers employed to provide that segment of the song.

The phrasing on that particular line is the highlight of the song for me. I once filled a thirty minute tape with just that line, and would listen to it to hearts content
