What The Hell Happened To Karen?

Is a love song's Photo Is a love song 21 Aug 2007

Mostly the title I used was just to grab you attention...

But seriously check out this video. Why does it look like Karen is trying to clap but she's very unsuccessful...especially in the beginning.

The quality sucks and the acoustics don't make Karen's voice sound as good as it usually does...for some odd reason. I really hate the slow fades in this video. It really makes the performance seem like crap. Also, the audience doesn't seem like it could be doing all it could be doing. Even Karen tried to get them going, but they just clapped the same way while Karen clapped a different way. But that's just my opinion...mostly I am saying all this stuff just to get you to watch the video. laugh.gif

I'd like to hear what you think about this video I found on YouTube. Karen looks very thin in this video. I wish Richard would get off his ass and say something to her right then and there! Her hair looks awesome...and her clothes look...well they look very 70s-80s...but I couldn't help but notice that her hands look so long and fragile...she looks like she could snap in two very easily. This video is alittle hard to watch. I was scared. Again I am just trying to get you to watch the video...so please watch and comment.

This is the way she looked on Merv Griffin...I'd suggest you watch this too if you haven't already. I love her afro! laugh.gif

Looks like Karen started missing her claps on purpose cause the audience likely was off beat. That's kind of something that wouldn't surprise me about Karen, actually. She had an interesting sense of humor on stage.

People did say something to her about it, she was sick, she honestly didn't see what everyone else did, Anorexia is a tough disease, and Karen did fight it, but by the time she realized she was sick, she was to far gone, that still bugs me, so sad, poor Karen

Richard was quite clear in post-1983 interviews that he did everything he could to help Karen, and I believe him. The question, "why didn't anyone do anything" is a pretty typical question that follows after any loved one dies from an addiction or disorder, as Karen did. There are several places in writing where we can find that those around Karen, as early as 1975, tried to help her. When someone is afflicted with anorexia nervosa, help MUST come from within, there is no other way to recover.

I know AaronC that bigs me A LOT too! And the Cute One, I am still not sure why she'd miss claps on purpose... blink.gif. Is that a musical thingy? I got to say again...the audience for that performance SUCKED!

Also, Richard has such strange expressions...to prove it more here's this video...

Richard had such a weird stage presents. Very odd facial expressions--very odd expressions indeed.

Linda I think Karen's help from within came alittle too late. Too sad... sad.gif

By the way, I LOVE (Want You) Back in my Life Again...just one of those songs that's impossible to sing...only Karen could have pulled it off.

Funny, today I haven't noticed any other female/male artist that has matched Karen's range. Maybe Mariah Carrey...apparently she has the record for highest note ever recorded in record history. But Karen had that voice that still today nobody can match.

I agree with aaron. Anorexia is both a mental and physcial illness ( the brain is really impaired by long-term starvation). I think everyone around her tried their best with what they knew about the diesease at the time, which was next to nothing. For example, now days i believe the weight-gain is a heck of a lot more gradual and not like her thirty pound gain in eight weeks or so (which is what i think killed her by puting both strain and excess fluid around her heart).
I don't like looking at her in 1981. Bumms me out.

Yah, it's a real bummer seeing her in 1981...but I try to look past her illness and see the soul that was within...what a great person she was. Karen wasn't Anorexia, Karen was Karen. If you can get past the whole shock of seeing her so thin and accept it...you can see her booming personality and charm.

Those are just my thoughts though I don't know if they mean anything...

Yeah. Sometimes it's hard to forget that she had a whole life and that the whole sad ending and problems weren't the most important things. I suppose I am very delicate about seeing her ( or anyone for that matter) not well, But you're totally right. She was/is more than anorexia anyways...

Uh huh!

So, can anybody answer this...

By the time Karen was "clearly" Anorexic did people know what Anorexia was? ...well I am sure they did cause of "Twiggy".

The general public didn't understand that anorexia nervosa is a DISORDER, as opposed to a choice. Even after Karen passed away, there were news stories about her "strange disease" and it was all new information. I would venture to say that the general public today still doesn't understand it as such.... although the label seems to be more popular in tabloid trash. huh.gif

Damn right Linda! Damn right!

You know I was just thinking...one thing that was good about Karen is she always sounded as good as she does on records/CDs/Mp3s as she did in concert (as it seems thanks to YOUTUBE)...unless if the quality of the video is bad even then it's actually still quite remarkable and will never be matched by anyone!

I am trying to get this thread up and running again. I went back and rescued it.

I was just watching the video again where Karen missed claps. I actually started laughing. It's just such an odd thing to do, but it seems like such a Karen thing to do too. It so great. I am sitting in my living room and I am missing claps along with her. I am having fun. smile.gif So leave me alone I am enjoying it. laugh.gif
