What songs did Karen dislike? (I'd use the word hate but it's a strong word)
I know Karen disliked SUPERSTAR...so I've heard.
Maybe Karen didn't dislike any songs... (but I am sure she didn't like all of them).
When I listened to some of the songs there are some songs where I think I can tell whether she liked them or not...or maybe I am crazy.
What's your thoughts on this?

I've heard Karen liked "Superstar", then you hear she disliked it. I don't think we'll ever know for sure on that. I'm sure she had much of an admiration for alot of the songs. Hell, she was singing them day to day, wasn't she!

Your right on that one Marty! I don't think we'll ever know and she was singing them day to day...hey I'd hate (I mean dislike) them too if I had to sing them over and over. I think she may have sang Superstar one to many times...and maybe she disliked it cause of that. Or maybe she liked it...again we'll never know...unless...
...we ask Richard!

I remember reading somewhere that she didn't like Solitaire. Not my favorite either.

EXACTLY! That's what I am talking about! I can tell when she doesn't like a song because you can hear that she doesn't really give it her all. Solitaire (I haven't even hear the entire song yet I can't get through it) it's one of those songs that is a perfect example of Karen sounding like she doesn't like a song. Not one of my favourites either. Usually her voice sounds incredibly smooth when she's enjoying it...I think. Solitaire she sounded alittle crackily at some points...but maybe that's just me.

Richard's notes for Ordinary Fool on his website www.richardandkarencarpenter.com:
Karen and I recorded it in 1976 while working on our "A Kind Of Hush" album. Originally it was recorded the way we did virtually all our recordings, bass, piano, drums and a "work lead" so, as you know, the drummer and bassist could hear the melody while reading their charts. Karen was not that taken with the song and it did not make the album.

At first, Karen disliked Superstar.... I believe it was so foreign to her when she recorded it that she sang it off a restaurant napkin with Richard's scribbles.
She grew to like it, though.
Not so with Solitaire. May be why she never sang it live.
I confess, I still don't care for "solitaire"

"Solitaire" is quite the down song. I like it, but it's not one of my favorites.

Other songs I can't get excited about are "Drucilla Penny", "Can't Smile Without You", "This Masquerade" and a handful of assorted songs from Karen's solo album.

I would think that Karen's voice WOULD reflect whether she liked a song or not.
It sure sounds like she liked "Jambalaya" onstage and off.
But yeah...I was never taken with Solitaire, either...it just seems to drag, like Karen was singing it because she 'had' to. I personally cannot STAND "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"...I always skip it.

I like Don't Cry For Me Argentina.. it makes me think of how perfect Karen would be playing a part in a musical live performance and how rich the experience would be if she played a character that also sang the parts the way she did with that song. She sings it so well!
However I cant' stand the long beginning with the opera sounding guy and the chanting Peron! Its only good when Karen starts in.

Like Kron said, Karen disliked Superstar at first, but after she heard Richard's arrangement it grew on her. Other musicians have recorded that Leon Russell classic such as Bette Midler, Rita Coolidge, Cher, and Luther Vandross. Mr. Russell's songs suited Karen's voice...Song For You is many Carps fans' fav. Karen's drumming on This Masquerade is just divine. Anyway, she didn't like it at first, but after Richard worked his magic, she did.

Yeah, I had read that. I just read alot that she disliked it immensely. It's confusing when you read two sides of the story. I, personally, do believe that story though. I just can't really say for sure. Someday I'll ask her!

I know she liked "I need to be in love" alot. When you saw her expressions when she sang it was like WOW! She was in love with that song. So, I guess we can all agree that "Solitaire" isn't a favorite of the fans on the lead sister forum.

What do you mean you'll ask her? Karen? Do you mean you'll ask her when you croak? I am confused or maybe I complicated you entire statement.
