Just some interesting lil' tidbits I found while browsing:
(1971)
-Richard Lynn Carpenter (Libra) was born at 12:53 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 1946. Blonde hair, hazel eyes. Present height 6 ft. His voice range in low E for two octaves. His favorite colors are yellow, black and gold. Hobbies include luxury cars, sports cars (the faster the better) and antique cars. He collects records, specially old 78's.
-Karen Anne Carpenter (Pisces) was born at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 1950. Brown hair and eyes. Present height 5 ft. 4 in. Her voice rang is C below middle C to G above height C. Her favorite colors are red, black and yellow. Hobbies include cooking, needlepoint and bowling. She loves horses, and her love of them convinced her to make the move to California for New Haven, Connecticut where she and Richard were born. Karen was rather disappointed when her parents bought a house in the city of Downey, where she discovered there was no room to house a horse. However, she settled for a second love - a dog. At present she has a beautiful Belgian Shepherd she calls "Lady" and a Sammoyed pup she has named "Mush". Karen's private collection consists of a variety of stuffed animals.
-Karen and Richard were "Grand Marshalls" @ Downey Christmas Parade, Dec. 5, 1971
(1974)
-The Carpenters recent European tour was a great success. The 10 hour flight took them from 80 degree Downey to a snowy 30 degree London, but Richard & Karen admit the welcome they received from the tremendous crowds and dignitaries was very warm. The famous Inn On The Park was reserved for them and Karen was assigned Howard Hughes' elegant suite which was a blaze of color with flowers, telegrams and baskets of fruit.
After ten interviews, they were the guests of friend & English record producer Nicky Chinn for dinner at Burke's restaurant (the place to go in London). Five more interviews, plus taping a radio show filled most of the 2nd day. Although a press luncheon was given in their honor, not a bite was eaten, as they were too busy answering questions.
More interviews and a t.v. talk show followed the luncheon, winding up the evening. at a party given for them by Neil Sedaka. There they met many English music celebrities including The New Seekers & Gary Glitter. Next day more interviews & a photo session, plus a 2 hour radio interview show with Tony Blackburn - on BBC! At day's end, Nicky took them to the Tramp, another famous restaurant.
-Nicky Chinn, 1974
The following day they were guests of Del Artusa for lunch, after which they strolled along King's Rd, browsing through shops where they found the prices very high. example; Levis selling for $9.00 here. were selling at $17.00 there.
Dinner that evening was reserved at Annabelle's, which Paul Bloch (their PR man) described as a very elegant. extremely conservative, charming discotheque with superb food and service. Karen & Richard met Olivia Newton-John there & thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
(1977)
-Richard was asked to write the music for the Disney film The Rescuers, but other commitments at that time resulted in a reluctant negative answer.
-Karen wears a floor-length ermine coat, performing "White Christmas" on the Xmas TV Special
-Karen and Richard were recent guests of (the real) Don Steel on LA's new radio station 1O-Q who frequently play the long version of Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft. Later this week they will be hosted by Wink Martindale on KMPC another great Las Angles radio station. Wink will review Passage. (AUDIO?)
(1984)
-I am very happy to advise you Richard married his longtime girlfriend Mary Rudolph on 19th. May. In accordance with Richard's wishes, the ceremony, officiated by Rev. Michael Winstead at Downey United Methodist Church was a private occasion, witnessed by family, close friends and associates numbering 120.
A natural beauty, the bride was stunningly radiant as she and the groom exchanged their marriage vows. She was attended by five bridesmaids attired in charming pink chiffon dresses. The groom, Dad and ushers sported black tuxedos. Mom Carpenter was dressed in an old fashioned Victorian style pink gown, and the bride's Mother's gown of pale blue was a similar style. The bride was given away by her father, and Wes Jacobs was the choice of Best Man for Richard.
An elegant reception at the Tiffany Terrace of. the Hilton At The Park Hotel in the city of Anaheim followed the ceremony. Music and dancing continued until the wee hours of the morning. Needless to say Richard and Wes did not escape "work" as guests pleaded with them to add their expertise to the group of top notch musicians.

There must have been a bittersweet moment during the whole RC wedding even though that Karen was missing from the family event. It was so soon after she was gone.
I like reading "Trivia". Those newsletters were really a good "journal" of events!

A few questions & observations from all that:
Are there any photos from K & R's job as Grand Marshals in the Downey parade in 71?
They ate nothing at the press luncheon in 74! Wonder if that was deliberate on Karen's part?
The description of what Agnes wore to Richard's wedding reminds me of what she wore to Karen's. Are there any photos? Also, given that for Karen's funeral they brought in a pastor they had known in New Haven, I'm kind of surprised he didn't also officiate for Richard's wedding...
