The rumors have been going around for the last three or four years now... At last word, from Richard's own secretary, the album will be released in the fall of 2008...

I've heard several rumors that it will feature guest vocalists or that it will be an all instrumental album...

But the one rumor I have yet to hear is the one I want to hear - I'm hoping the new Christmas album will feature one of the "holy grail" unreleased Carpenter recordings - the Franz Schubert version of Ave Maria. Karen and Richard recorded BOTH the Gounod-Bach version and the Schubert version.

Let's hope he uses the Schubert recording to close out the album...

That would be fantastic!! clap.gif But I've just always assumed that since it didn't make it on to the posthumus Christmas album (when was that, 1984?) that it's probably not ever going to make it out of the vault. sad.gif

Ned, your idea would be awesome, however it doesn't seem like that will happen. See below straight from Richard's response. It appears it will feature his own family and maybe another guest. It's sad to think what we have may be all we ever get from Carpenters, I would be suprised if we ever get anything else new from Karen. What we have may be it at this point. Unless Richard decides to include something on a compilation but that could be years & years away since the next few years will be dedicated to the new Christmas album with no Karen.

The following was posted by Chris-Syndey over at A&M forum

I doubt there'll be any appearances from Karen on the Christmas album. Richard also told me when I wrote him that '[there'll be nothing new released with Karen's vocals]. So sorry. The Christmas album, however, will be something to make Karen proud, featuring my third daughter Mindi, along with me and another guest alto or two'.

...humming blue christmas, online...sad.gif

I was looking at some of the OLD posts on the A&MCorner Forum, and there was discussion about the album as far back as 2002...

Here's one post:

Among the tracks will be new original songs by Carpenter / Bettis "Together At Christmas Again " and Carpenter / Phillips Oland "December Morn " -which would be a great Album title

There will be at least one Petula Clark lead vocal track and several other guest vocalists have been recorded -we will have to await the final track selection to see more surprises

I always loved the song AN OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS. I wish he would have done a full song of it. And I love the songs Christmas Turned Blue, December Morn and Together At Christmas Again. RC really does have a lot of talent. Other songs he could use would be...from the Christmas Specials. Silent Night (with Georgia Engel vocals taken off), Adeste Fideles with Gene Kelly and RC....
