In 1972 The Carpenters performed a wonderful concert in Australia. Watch Karen sing and play drums on stage at the age of 22. She looks magnificently beautiful and performs with effortless grace and style. See for yourself:

Welcome to the forum! icon_wave.gif

The link that you posted tells me that I have to be a member to view it. But here's a youtube link to Karen's performance behind the drums while singing "Ticket To Ride". wub.gif The Carpenters Live in Australia is probably my second favourite performance, behind the Budokan concert in 1974.

The link I provided is the Australia concert in its entirety. The YouTube link is just as good even though in multi parts. Thanks you.

BTW, Karen often made anti smoking statements. I always wondered if she was a reformed smoker who may have smoked cigarettes when she was younger in order to control her weight.

I don't think Karen ever smoked. hmmm.gif I know that Richard did, and perhaps still does. I would guess that Karen probably didn't want to risk doing anything that might jeapordize the quality of her lungs and throat, she needed them for her career. laugh.gif

Isn't it amazing how pleasant some of the music back in the 70's was? The Carpenter's, John Denver, Abba, and many others. It's too bad that this generation cannot make enjoyable music like that.

The Carpenters, John Denver, The Beach Boys, Abba, The Association, The Mamas and The Papas, The Byrds, among many others. They don't make music like that anymore, not for the last 25 years. I think the talent for such good music must be out there today somewhere, but today's music producers only produce hip-hop and grunge rock. It's sad.

Don't forget the 5th Dimension. What a voice Marilyn McCoo has!

Photography, (And I am good, really good *grin*), Traveling, Working on my car, working on my house, Home Theater, volunteering at the local elementary school (I am working on my Elementary Education Degree)

I am also finally fulfilling a lifelong ambition and taking up the drums. I can usually be found syncopating with my hands, thumbs, fingers or even knees to whatever is being played. I don't know if I will be a "natural", but it sure as heck feels natural to me. I guess as Karen would say, "What lies in the future is a mystery to us all.....," and I think this describes my future behind the kit as well. We shall see, right now it is all a mys-ter-y.

I collect...........*everything*....lol. I jump around. In the past few years I have collected: Carpenters memoribilia, Disneyana, Dennis Mukai prints and Ohio State Buckeye memoribilia.

And to complete the "Let's revisit my childhood" obsession, I also collect/have collected: Hot Wheels, Comic Books (Spiderman and Fantastic Four) and Baseball cards.

Curiously, she calls *me*, her "better half."

She's a little confused.

I agree with the statement of the great music of the 70s. I love all the soft sounds of those groups mentioned. Also the Classic Rock from the 70s is the best. Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Bad Company and so on. Todays rock is just terrible and the pop is so damn overtly sexy. Young kids are impressed the wrong way by the likes of Brittney Spears and Justin Timberlake. I am so glad I grew up in the 70s as a child as opposed to today.
