Race For Top

I wanted to make a friendly post to remind everyone there isn't a race for top 10 or now 20 posters. I've noticed recently there's focus on who is in the top and people seem to be padding posts with emoticon responses or short replies with no real content.
Please do not post responses using emoticons. Type out real words.
Also, the forum is about posting, not seeing who can post the most. The next step will have to be to remove all references to post count. It's just not a nice trend around here. I don't like to see competition for top spots.
thanks

Honestly, I think it's always been like that. The first thing I noticed here was that it was laid-back enough that someone could post just "
" without getting attacked.
Does it take up more bandwidth or something to have topics with a lot of responces?

I didn't post just emoticons til I had been here awhile tho. Sometimes there are no words.

There are some that only post using emoticons. Part of being in a forum is offering some sort of content. I'm not saying no emoticons but it gets frustrating to read post after post where it's an Emoticon quoted followed by emoticon reply and then those quoted and replied to with more emoticons. So, I end up scrolling down a page to see Emoticon chat rather than actual words. And yes, some people will use it to bump up their post counts.
And also yes, everything done here, Pm's, emails, posts, viewing threads, comments, adding a friend to your friends list, etc etc.... is bandwidth.
I've just seen a trend lately of posts going WAY off topic and a string of emoticons being used to reply and it has nothing to do with the topic.

I totally agree with you there Pam, even knowing that I am as guilty as anybody.
It seems lately that there has been too much posting with no real contwent. Kind of like cotton candy, no real content.
Not that every thread has to be pulitzer material, but ya.
And again, I know I am one of the most guilty here, especially the last month or so.
And I also agree that there is probably an extra dynamic of post count involved, at least at some level.
So if you ask me, (not that anyone did

) I say lose the totals, keep the levels, ....noob.....medium.....expert....needs a life....really needs a life.....really really needs a life.........Boo and Annie....

You've put a lot of thought into this, I see. Not a bad idea.

Well, as long as I'm ahead of Boo.
Just kidding. I was just kidding.

I don't really compete for post count, per se...but I like to reach little "goals" for myself. I'm weird with numbers, and if I see a certain "milestone" coming up (like 3500 or something) I get a little "oh goody" burst when I get close to it. I wouldn't be devastated to lose the post counts though...but it would be a shame to lose Annie's and Boo's impressive totals!
And ya, I always feel a little bit guilty inside when I make an emoticon post

Thanks... I've drawn one every year since I've been married. I wonder if I could find them all.
