Supposed Recording Session:spring 1983

KarenCarpFan's Photo KarenCarpFan 02 Oct 2003

Hi fellow Carpenters fans. Thank you for those who welcomed me to the Forum.. Im writing this topic because im dying to find out what songs would Karen and Richard have recorded in what should have been their next recording session in March 1983.. have she lived! :) I already know she prolly would have recorded In Love alone.. does anyone know about somethings in your eyes, that was recorded by Dusty Springfield on Richards Time album? i dont even know if it was written while Karen was alive or not.. quite possibly we may have heard songs written by Pamela Oland on what would have been their next album in 83, had yet again Karen lived.

If anyone knows if Richard said anywhere what tunes he wanted to record during that would-be session please lemm know.. I know this is a tough questions, but the what if just haunts my mind. and anyone please.. say what were other Karen and Richards Plans for the year of 1983.. It just Kills me what Karen didnt record.. the 1980s had so many many BEAUTIFUL ballads..karen would just soar on them.. Much more advanced lyrically speaking wise than what they had done in the past.

with regards to my fellow members on the board,

Michael

Michael,

Good question, but one I really can't answer. I never heard any interview or read anywhere what Richard had planned as far as song selection for the new album. Just think though, John Bettis wrote "Crazy for You' that Madonna recorded - couldn't you just hear Karen singing that one! It would have been beautiful!

Michael & All,

Interesting Topic -You Have Touched on a Very Sensitive Period -Richard Has Never Revealed Many Details About 1983 Recording Plans via Interviews / Video
Releases ;)

However Richard Did Confirm In Love Alone was Completed Autumn 1982 With John Bettis , Sadly Karen Never Heard this New Song Before Her Death -We can Only Dream of Karen's Haunting Vocals on this Wonderful Original Song

A&M in London Did Confirm in January 1983 that Carpenters were Due Back at A&M Studios in February 1983 to Commence Recording New Album and That Richard had Written Many New Original Songs with John Bettis for Summer / EarlyAutumn Release -All Good News -Until the Shock of February 4 1983...... :(

Only In Love Alone has Surfaced on Richard's TIME Album (1987)-Rest of These Solo Tracks were Written 1985 > 1987 and This is When Richard Began Association With Pamela Phillips Oland -Which Continues .......Richard Probably Too Emotionally Close to Other Original Songs to Be Able To Record / Release Now... :(

Tour Plans were Discussed in Early 1983 with Management , Promoters and Joe Layton -Who Revamped Carpenters Stage Show 1976>1978 :D

If We Fans Wanted a Potential 1983 Plan of Action :

February, March , April 1983 -Recording New Album ( Approx 16 Tracks)

May 1983 -Mixing,Mastering New Album

June 1983 -New Single / Promotion Work

July, August 1983 -Planned USA Tour & New Album Release

Sept 1983 -New TV Special (ABC Network) Recorded

Oct , Nov 1983 -UK, European , Japanese , Australian Tours (South America?)

Dec 1983 - Vegas Concerts ? or Special USA Christmas Concerts

1984 Probably Would Have Seen Another Christmas Album (With Extra Tracks
Recorded) and Possible Live Album from USA Concerts...... ;)

All Sounds Good -But Wonder Whether Karen was Really Healthy Enough to Undertake More Hectic Schedules As Earlier In Carpenters Career ? :o

Peter.....Might Have Beens.......

Peter-- Thank you sooo much! wow! You know so much! I would love to hear those lyrics that John and Richard wrote.. perhaps some very emotional lyrics, espicially when Karen was fighting for her life..up until the very end. I would love his next solo album to have these songs in it.. perhaps have Akiko sing all of them! (not sure how you spell her name) Now, i would totally buy it! thats something Richard could certentely due.. To have songs written while Karen was alive and release them in 2004-2005? i dont care so much for the newer songs.. but to have the songs written by the lyric genuis, John Bettis! with some extras of courseI

I can only imagine

p.S. also i know there are songs from Richards Time album that have not surfaced.. I wonder i he can release some of those on a new solo album.. Unfortuntely Richards solo stuff dosnt seem to sell very well.. But maybe, and i hate to say this.. But for after Richards death.. :o I hope at least then he gets the credit worth due!

Thanks for being a forum with such nice folks and good info and insights!

Cherish all,

Michael
