Karen At Christmas!

As we go into another Christmas holiday season, I'm once again amazed at the fact that Karen is with us now more than ever. In malls, on the radio, her voice is timeless and can carry us back to times gone by. Although it is with a deep sadness that I hear her sing, "I'll Be Home For Christmas", when she won't be. This was her favorite time of year and I understand why. The sharing and warmth was all part of Karen's natural personality and I'm sure this time of year made it shine even more-so. We are so lucky to have Karen's voice still with us, to be appreciated and discovered by new fans to come. I imagine her singing still, wherever she is...Christmas hymns and songs, joyfully and smiling.

Indeed!
I turned on my radio in the car this morning for my horrifying daily commute to work and the first voice I heard yet again was Karen! I wrote two weeks ago the NYC's number one ranked fm station went all Christmas and I can say with assurance that they are playing more Carpenters this year than last. I am not exaggerating that I hear them EVERY day now. AND, not just Merry Christmas Darling either.
I too was contemplating about Karen and her presence during this time of year. Now, her voice is right there with Sinatra, Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, Gene Autry and others who every year are sure to be heard and that's wonderful. I am very very glad her and Richard chose to do Christmas albums in their career beacuse besides being beautiful music that is serious, respectful and meaningful as well as fun, we can be assured every year Karen's voice will echo this time of year and be exposed to new fans of all ages.
Amen to that.

It's funny how nobody even knows who Karen is, then at Christmas they start to appreciate her again, radio stations never play one Carpenter's songs all year, untill Christmas, the one heard around here is Merry Christmas Darling, every other song on the radio during Christmas is Merry Christmas Darling, what a perfect song " merry christmas darling, we're apart that's true, but I can dream and in my dreams I'm Christmasing with you" that is how I feel about Karen, I have to watch both their christmas specials every christmas eve, kind of a wonderful tradition in my family, did you know that all 5 of the TV specials are available on DVD

Well those specials aren't available for sale at a store, at least I've never seen them. If you have please let all of us know cause we'll rush to buy them I'm sure.
The bootlegs for those specials are just the specials themselves recorded by someone, then they made copies and sold or traded them.

I have never seen them in stores either, but this is the case with a lot of Carpenter's stuff, but they are on the internet for sale somewhere, and they are DVD's in a boxed set, I'll try to find the website

The one's for sale on the internet have to be bootlegs, but as for a boxed set I've never really seen anything like that. If you are able to find a link to that let us know.
Most people here including myself have bootlegs of a lot of their specials and other TV appearances, depending on the copy the quality isn't always the greatest, better than nothing though.

No problem, if you ever find it though it could be a gem us fans have been waiting for. I'm not sure our collections would be as big as they are without the help of the internet.

I know for a fact that I would only have about half the stuff that I have now, if that much without the internet, and there would be no Carpenter's chat rooms, thats the best part I think

That's strange, I love hearing Merry Christmas Darling in malls at Christmas.
A little bit of Karen keeping you companyn in the middle of the Christmas rush.
I love the part of their Christmas special where she is singing Merry Christmas Darling, that was my favorite part of the Christmas special.
