Karen And The Bangles

The all-girl group THE BANGLES was always one of my favorite groups.
I have a lot of fond memories of that 1980's album that had Manic Monday on it...I mean, one of the few pieces one could buy that EVERY song was enjoyable (though I thought WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN was the least of the album..
.and maybe one of their biggest hits.) Anyway, I am delighted The Bangles are back making music again today.
If you could talk The Bangles into re-doing a Carpenters song, which one would you pick? Although there are many they could redo, my first thought was (Want You) Back In My Life Again.

Well I love ''manic monday'' and ''eternal flame''...........i know that ''walk like an egyptian'' was one of their biggest hits, i know i've heard that song but i really don't remember.....mmm is the name of the singer Belinda? I think so, maybe i'm wrong....well i think ''Belinda'' and Karen have different style...I can't imagine ''Belinda'' singing a carpenters song, or Karen singing a Bangles song!!!....But let me think about it........................Belinda's voice was sweet so I think it would be a sweet song.....or country...maybe ''Sweet sweet smile''

Renata,
Belinda Carlisle was the lead singer for the "Go - Go's" - Susanna Hofs was the lead singer for the Bangles. I like both of those groups actually. But the song I would have the Bangles sing would be "Rainy Days". I just think Susanna could handle that song - maybe the Bangles could put a cool twist on it!

It would be interesting to hear some of these Carpenters tunes by Bangles
Please Mr Postman
All I can do
Reason to believe
Boat to sail
Man Smart, woman smarter
(want you) back in my life
Obviuosly, in their own style

Renata--Couldn't you imagine the Carpenters doing ETERNAL FLAME....The Bangles had another song I liked but the song title escapes me....something about maybe "a lonely shade of winter"....It was the theme song to that 1980's movie about cocaine....maybe Michael Fox in it? Gosh, I have forgotten a lot of the 1980's already....
Oh, Jayne...I used to really like the Go Go's....Belinda Carlisle had a GREAT solo album...I remember the Song Walking in the Sand on it...the same song Aerosmith did...and somebody from the 1950's did before or something...

Ooh! J'adore The Bangles! I actually danced around my living room to "Walk Like an Egyptian" last night!
I think The Bangles could pull off "Please Mister Postman" and I can only imagine Karen singing "Eternal Flame"

The Bangle did "Hazy Shade of winter" which I believe Simon & Garfunkel did previously. And yes, Belinda Carlisle did "Circle in the Sand", but one of my favorite songs of hers was "Mad about You". Love that song!

Phiipper--
Thanks for the correction. You, of course, are right....Circle in the Sand...I Loved that song; and Karen would have been RIGHT for it....That whole Belinda Carlisle solo release was fantastic (and talk about a poor girl with WEIGHT issues--Belinda...I always admired her.) (Gosh, my memory of the 80's must be fading fast...but I did get the SAND part right
And Jayne, thanks for reminding me of that Simon and Garfunkle tune The Bangles did. I LOVED that song!

Sounds like the Bangles could use some help with Carpenters songs...and seriously THINK about it: that is per a review of their new disc--Doll Revolution. Evidently, high praise is given for their re-do of an Elvis Costello tune...but they are BLASTED for their new material.
This is a review (by Walter Tunis...and of course, just ONE MAN"S opinion) about their new disc:
"The first album in 15 years by the '80s MTV darlings blasts out of the starting gate with a rock-solid cover of Elvis Costello's Tear Off Your Own Head (It's a Doll Revolution). It sparkles with Susanna Hoff's gigglly vocal lead, a clap-happy refrain the Bangles grab by the throat, and a wicked guitar solo. Too bad the album sinks like a brick once the band's original material kicks in. A wash of synthesizers and techno grooves turns Something That You Said into a push-button pop balladry that sends Doll Revolution on a one way trip to Britneyville. The Romantic downers tend to pile up pretty fast, too. Nickel Romeo, Single By Choice, Lost at Sea and Mixed Mesages are all as transparent as their titles. Aside from kicking Costello tune, nothing on Doll Revolution is at all revolutionary...
-----
(It is interesting, to me, to note that the one song that is highly praised is by Elvis Costello. Well, as many of you may know....Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach have been working side-by-side (at least they were for quite a lengthy time) for some time. I saw Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach on several TV shows, making guest appearances together. Well, you probably know what I am inferring: Looks like a possible "Carpenters" connection to me
