Bangs!?!

cazzy79's Photo cazzy79 25 Sep 2006

Good Evening all,
This is my first 'official' post outside of introducing myself. I must say, I totally love this website. U all seem a fab bunch.

Anyway, I have a daft question. I've read about people talking about Karen's 'bangs'. I know this is an American 'hair' description thing, haha, but what does it mean. I'm intrigued biggrin.gif

Sorry for asking a silly question, just needed to get it out and now I feel much better. lol
I need to get out more!!

Tis not a daft question. It's a very valid question. Bangs, at least in America, is the hair above your forehead. Some people cut them short and they hang down just above or below their eyebrows, others style them to where they stick up (who didn't love the 1980's hair bands that probably used 5 bottles of AquaNet each time they styled their hair??? laugh.gif), and others have haircuts that cause their bangs to kind of blend in to the rest of their hair. Hope this helps. Glad you asked!!! icon_wave.gif

Bangs rock if you have the face for them...Karen pulled them off well, but I did prefer her without them because it really opened up her face and showcased her eyes a lot more! wub.gif

I personally have not had bangs since I was nine. I sometimes wonder if I should try them again hmmm.gif laugh.gif

I've had bangs ALL my 30 years of life. Without them, my face looks too round! rolleyes.gif

I prefer Karen without her bangs though. smile.gif

Actually in the last photo of Karen, she DID have bangs there too...but they were cut to be able to feather it back into her hair if need be. I always thought that those photo shoots of Karen were some of her at her most natural looking beauty. I remember seeing the inner cover of the Yesterday Once More album and seeing the one of her and RC, where he is wearing red shirt and silver jacket...and Karen looked gorgeous with her silky, curly, long hair. Same photo shoot as the poster of Karen wearing red satin suit and RC in white, blue, red jumpsuit.

I do - and always have - hated Karen with this fringe from 1971. I think it looks awful, what we in Newcastle would call 'beefy' laugh.gif

She looked much prettier when she had her hair pulled back from her forehead in 1974 and beyond, it really did open up her face and give much more attention to her eyes. It just made her look a lot more pretty all round.

I used to have bangs, but now I have widow's peak so they don't stay. I've always had a big forehead so sometimes I wish I could still have them, but whatever. laugh.gif

Congrats on your first topic, cazzy!!! WOOHOO!! icon_jump.gif Welcome icon_wave.gif

Woah, I didn't expect to log on to all the replies. Thanks guys, now I know what BANGS are!! lol and yup, in UK they're knows as a FRINGE. Man, it's so simple once u know what something means!!

I haven't had bangs since my brother cut my hair off when I was about 4. I've got a big old 'slap head' (aka: forehead!!)

I must admit, I do prefer KC with her 'bangs' grown out. Haha, I'm loving this, not only am I learning heaps more about The Carpenters from this site, I'm learning a whole other language. U guys rock!! happydance.gif
