Karen Surfaces Again

Well,
We're obviously all hardcore fans of the most famous "Lead Sister" of them all so reading and feeling the love here for Karen is to be expected as much as how we follow anything about her. BUT, every now and then I am happily taken back to see Karen's influence and importance is really extensive.
Now, I am sure most of us in the States know about how former Today Show co-host Katie Couric left NBC to go and anchor the CBS Evening News. The media scrutiny has been intense. Well, Katie has a blog to go with all her other duties. And, in the FIRST entry, she ends by referring to Karen Carpenter! Nice.
The link is below. By the way, Karen has been mentioned a lot in the media and Web media too because of Katie's entry:

Aw, that's awesome, thanks for sharing.
It's funny though, because she's kinda um, making fun of her. But in a nice way.

found this blurb from gawker.com-
• Katie Couric's first week is accompanied by her first blog, a rambling, 10000-word treatment on the importance of being perky, complete with Karen Carpenter lyrics. Congrats, Katie. You're really done something.
um, ok.

great minds think alike bananie, cos i thought the same thing as you. i love katie couric. my mom's dog is named after her. apparently, my mom thought that in some way this particular female jack russell terrier looked like katie couric
i think she's poking more fun of herself and indirectly it takes a jab at karen.
i think if karen were here, she'd probably get a kick out of it and be like, "yeah! what was that? like 35-36 years ago???"
thanks for sharing!

Yeah, exactly. Like, if she's quoting Karen, and Karen's not hip, then she's not hip.

My mom thinks she shows off her legs a lot.

I found this while I was searching in search engine several days ago, then I saw it in another engine.
I wondered if the meaning of 'hip' changed. Thank you Annie, for your 'hip' comment.

It seemed to me as though she was poking fun at herself, not Karen.
That's how I took it, anyway. Like, she really wanted to say "Begun", then pretended to goof up. I like her...she is hip!!

[font=Comic Sans Ms]We should email Ms. Couric and ask if she could play
Carpenters "We ve Only Just Begun" on her show then she would be really HIP

I love Katie. I think she can be a bitch, but that's a good thing! Overall, she's just damn good at what she does...and no one can deny it! Thanks for sharing.

ROSIE O'DONNELL of the show "THE VIEW", today again told the story of how she touched Karen's arm.
She tells the story this way (not word for word) on "The View" (with Barbara Walters, etc).
In 1971, Rosie O'Donnell's mother took her to the WESTBURY MUSIC FAIR. The Carpenters was her first concert & she was 9 years old. After the concert, she said they stood in line waiting for the Carpenters to come out --and Rosie said she 'reached out and touched Karen Carpenter's arm' ---and that was a BIG deal to her. She sounds excited everytime she tells this story.
She also told this story several years ago on The Tonight Show, with Jay Leno --with Willie Nelson as a guest. And Willie Nelson said something like "oh yea, she was great'. (about Karen).
