Comparing Carpenters To...non-western Music?

nackteziege's Photo nackteziege 13 Sep 2006

So, for my IB Music class, we have to do a "musical investigation", where we pick a western style [or whatever] of music and compare it to something non-western. It would be super cool to use Carpenters, but I really can't think of any non-western influences of theirs. Does anyone else have an idea?

Or you can suggest non-Carpenter topics. Haha. I'm pretty much clueless at the moment.

This is wayyy out there...but maybe some of Karen's amazing drum solos from the TV specials could relate to some non-Western rhythm or dance (?) hmmm.gif

The Carpenters were always very big on harmonies. In traditional Indian music, there is absolutely zero harmony. It is all melodic. You might be able to use that.

Hmm...I didn't think about the harmonies.

I might have to try 70s pop. It's more broad.
