Ok guys: Go look at this picture!

When is this from??? Her name tag reads: "Karen Carpenter Burris". So we know it's from late 1980 at least. She had a nasty perm in mid and late 1981, so we know it wasn't then. Could this be from sometime in 1982.....or rarer yet...1983?? Anyone know? Thanks for your help.

Not sure when it was, but this picture struck me last night when I was looking thru that members items for sale on eBay.

That photo is gorgeous...I don't know when it's from, and Karen does look a little tired there, but it's still stunning!!!

Tricky one! Personally I don't think it's 1982 or 1983. Her hair was longer in 83 and her face thinner. There seem to be almost no photos around from 82, except the one with her parents outside her house, the 'you win I gain' one and a couple taken at Christmas. Also as the marriage was in trouble, (well, pretty much over) by then I think she wouldn't have worn a badge with Burris on... I don't think her husband's name was so well known that anyone would've regarded it as odd if she wore a badge with just 'Karen Carpenter' on at that time.
My guess is that this photo was taken within the first few months after her marriage - she was happily married then and would've perhaps even asked for both names to go on her badge. I'd have said it was before the end of the year though, because there is a pic of her in the Coleman book from November 1980 where she looks quite unwell (as Richard says, 'drawn') and that was only 3 months after the wedding....and she is beginning to look unwell in this photo - look at her eyes...

That's from a charity dinner if I remember correctly. I think this is from the same night except with her winter coat off

The thing is.. I know where that picture is from and it's on the tip of my mind! It's driving me nuts! Someone post what it is and save me from going further insane! LOL It's some sort of charity dinner that Karen and Tom along with Richard attended. There's a photo somewhere with a poster regarding a car or something? Does this ring a bell anyone?

That picture makes me sad and I don't know why. Like I really want to go give her a hug or something.


Maybe it was like the Burris table she was sitting at or something.

The photo was taken on December 6 of 1980, Karen & Tom and Richard attended Popeye premiere.
WireImage has this and other photos taken on the same day, I think. (Maybe another site? )

Another photo on the day was at back cover of Japanese DVD which was released this June.

I was talking about these photos at "Karen and Hollywood" thread.
They also attended another party just before the premiere. I watched them on Japanese TV program "Star Sen-Ichi-Ya" back then. The host was Kyu Sakamoto who sang "Sukiyaki(Ue wo muite Arukou)". A reporter from Japan did interviews with them, Rita Coolidge and Donny Osmond. Donny talked about his baby.

I sent the cassette tape to LeadSister member in the. U.S. She sent me the same appearance to me. She might say she bought it from bootleg seller or someone. It was said "1981 Japanese radio". Not radio, but TV.

The first Carpenters appearance that I recorded with VHS(my father bought me VHS recorder in 1979.) I still recorded it to cassette tape, too. I have a cassette but I lost VHS. Members from England have this appearance video.

I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the same footage as you, Sakura, but I have an interview shortly after their marriage, which was aired in Japan. Karen and Tom are on the left of the screen, and then the interviewer, and Richard is on the right. They hadn't been married that long.

I would guess that this ebay photo was taken within a month or two of the marriage. Look at the length of Karen's hair, as well as the fact that she appears to be near the same weight that she was at her wedding (by the way, she did look comparatively well at her wedding). As for the function, heck if I know.

Linda, I don't know the date on photo site is correct or not. They confused with 1976 and 1972.

Sakura, I notice that there are a lot of errors on the internet, and especially ebay. But that's only because I am picky about dates. Otherwise I probably wouldn't even notice mistakes like that.
