Wouldnt it be great if richard brought out a new DVD called carpenter moments and on it had the carpenters appearances from the grammy awards,acadamy awards,carol burnett show,bruce forsythe show,interviews from early chat shows like the tonight show,concert footage.I wonder if he will release anything for karens 25th anniversary of her passing,prehaps a souveneir booklet or new biography,rather than keep releasing greatest hits compilations cds.we should all e mail him to see if he would consider doing any of the above .

That is a really nice idea. I wouldn't mind an interview/special apperance DVD!

I've been wanting a behind the scenes DVD for ever! I would love for Richard to release a DVD with backstage at concerts, various interviews, some concerts, recording sessions etc. That would be so AWESOME! But I highly doubt it will ever happen which is so sad. The Carpenters still have a large fan base that continues to grow and bring in young fans all the time. I think he would be really surprised by how well it would sell.

Karl, we must be on the same wave length. Just this week I was thinking again of how great it would be if we had a professionally released DVD that contained a compilation of their TV appearances. The Tonight Shows, Bruce Forsythe Show, the Music Award appearances, etc.

With all the legal issues we often hear about, I guess it really is wishful thinking, but hey...let's keep wishing and imagining it! Stranger things have happened!

i, too, would LOVE a professional dvd full of tv specials.....maybe show some outtakes from their tv specials?

Richard said something along these lines.... "These will never be released because of the enormous amount of legal work involved- obtaining permission from the other celebrities who appeared on these shows would be a nightmare. It wouldn't be worth it for the meagre sales it would generate".

see, i knew he said that....but i thought he only said that about the myokom series.....not sure if he meant it about all other specials and shows.....

When he said that, he was referring specifically to the Make Your Own Kind Of Music series, as well as their own TV specials, most of which he said, in hushed embarassed voice, are 'not very good'

Bloopers and 'behind the scenes" stuff would really be cool, though....he has NO concept of the hit he has potentially ......

Richard Answers.....

Absolutely not. Obtaining guest artists' releases, taking care of payment for publishing, director's fee, musicians' fees, etc. would prove to be a Herculean task and one that would not be practical given the meager amount of sales the package would generate. Plus, I don't care at all for the show.


I get the impression that if you asked about any tv specials, or behind the scenes stuff etc, he'd say exactly the same thing.

How come other artists like captain and tenille and sony and cher,frank sinatra etc. can release their shows on dvd but richard will not surely it can not be just down to royalities and permission.sonny and cher and captain and tenille had lot more guests on their shows than karen and richard,ok i can understand about not wanting to release myokom on dvd but he could still try and release their 5 tv specials they recorded.I think richard should think of his fans for a change.
