Looking For Love

Liza's Photo Liza 28 Aug 2006

Hi All,

I am having a grand old time sitting here downloading Carpenter's songs from ITunes (KC Heaven in my opinion) and I came across "Looking For Love" (a demo tape they probably did in 1967 or so) from The Essential Collection. I dig it! Even at aged 17 Karen's voice is in top form. The song itself is very 60's with all of the "love" in it. Has anyone else ever come across this song and if yes, what did you think of it? Any other demos I should download?

Another treat on that collection is a series of outtakes from "Now and Then". That (irritating) dj keeps messing up and they all just laugh and laugh. Karen laughs the loudest and I don't know if it's just me but Richard is REALLY authoritative in the studio ("You come in HERE!!!) or perhaps he is just passionate. It's hard to say!

Anywhoo, all of you ipod and MAC users get your butts over to Itunes and grab all you can smile.gif

Are you sure that's not Karen? I think she was the one barking orders to the DJ (Tony Peluso.)

No it was a man's voice. DEFINITELY not KC's!

This isn't a particularly rare song, it was the From the Top Collection released in 1991, and now again in the Essential Collection. I love that as well as I'll Be Yours, The Parting of Our Ways, You'll Love Me, All I Can Do, Don't Be Afraid (original version), Interview, Get Together etc. Plus all their instrumental songs like Caravan, Iced Tea, Strangers in the Night etc.

Though I wouldn't go round advertising the fact that you are downloading these songs. You're better off just buying the Essential Collection box set and getting them all legit in one go.

This song and the others up to the Offering/ticket to Ride selection were not demos they were released as Karen Carpenter solo records on the Magic Lamp label owned by Joe Osborne. The reason they sound raw ia they were remastered from the single releases in Richards Posession (the originals were lost in a fire) also Karen was 16 when she recorded them in 1966 just some info to share is all. Nonetheless I loved those early singles they are a fun listen and Karen was adorable at that young age still had the fantastic voice. Its amazing how far she came from then to the end of her career how her voice changed and matured. biggrin.gif

I like that ITunes provides a big selection of songs. I think it's legal because when you redeem your gift card, etc., it prompts to ask for your current residency... so I'm pretty sure ITunes is an OKAY deal. You can also purchase the album for just about as much as you would pay in the store, too.

Anyways, yes the demos are very awesome... very catchy! I can't help but singing along everytime! smile.gif Enjoy!

Hi Laura!

I LOVE "Leave Yesterday Behind"! I can't believe that it was never released as a single. How that got overlooked and the boring "I Believe You" got released is beyond me-

Liza! Hi!!!
First, I really like your avatar... karen looks soooo cute and adorable.
I agree, I think "Leave Yesterday Behind" would have been a hit. I love the harmonies in every song though... they're always so brilliant and sparkful! smile.gif smile.gif

Did you find all the songs you were looking for on ITunes?

Hey Girl,

Yeah I got everything I wanted from I-Tunes. It is a neat thing because you have the option of downloading the entire album or just the songs that you like and/or don't already have. I already have alot of the songs already (From Now and Then, Song For You and Close to You) so I was on the lookout for the early or more obscure stuff-

Yeah I really like that avatar too. Such a pretty girl who left us too soon.

iTunes is perfectly legal, because you are indeed purchasing the songs you download.
