The Carpenters PLATINUM AWARD
Where do these come from :?: I've seen a couple of ebay. Arent these awards given to the company or the Carpenters? How are they for sale? Are copies made? I cant imagine it being theirs and then end up on the market.

It's been a while since this forum was posted...but I hope its still read! I heard these "platinum" albums are made in large masses, to be given to the artist, company of the artist, and whomever else helped with the album...they had to help substantially of course. But I am not 100 percent sure!

Are the platinum awards made out of platinum?
I believe the RIAA needs to audit "Christmas Portrait." It is only single platinum and every person I know owns it and it is always up on the list every Christmas. Must be more than a million.

Yes -Carpenters certifications need an overhaul ....either Richard or Universal / A&M can apply for RIAA to review ....John Denver's total awards were several years ago and shot up ..... 
RIAA awards relate to shipments and not actual sales .....so most of their uncertificated albums ....must be GOLD minimum with large initial shipments to retailers and stores
