Karen To Me

KarenFanForLIfe's Photo KarenFanForLIfe 16 Aug 2006

I have to say when I found this site I realized that so many people felt the same way I did about Karen. I was 18 when Karen died, at the time I was not a Carpenter Fan, and never even heard one of there songs. I remember that exact day she died my grandmother told me that Karen Carpenter died. I remember saying “So what, who cares, she sucks” and thought nothing of it. one year later I heard a song on the radio in a local store “I won’t last a day with out you”. I remember feeling like a truck ran over me . I had no idea why this song/voice moved me so much, this was not typical for me. I ask someone if they knew who that was on the radio. “She said Karen Carpenter”. I remembered that name instantly, my grandmother words came to mind. When I got back home, I ask my sister “is Karen Carpenter dead”, she said yes, she died last year. Well, I can’t begin to tell you the feeling of despair I felt for both Karen’s death and what I said about her the day she died. Without saying, I mourned her for about 3 days, it's as if my own sister had died. And I could not understand why I cared so much, that’s not me as the time…

I went to the library to find a picture of her, it was a shocking experience, and I felt again like I knew her. I even had a dream once that Karen ask me who I was, and gave me a hug. I remember wakening up feeling very satisfied.

Since then 23 years later, I have collected every album/cd/mp3 they every made and even tried to join there fan club, still have the application insert. Received many pieces of Carpenter memorabilia. Many people try to describe Karen Voice in a nutshell, I have thought long and hard on that subject. The best way I can describe it is simply - Heart Warming Sweetness. !!

Thanks
Mark

Well, when you an 18 years old Italian from philadelphia that hangs around with wanabe mafia members, that never heard of the Carpenter's, arrogance is quite the norm.
