Stephen--
As a novelist myself, I HAD to check it out. Yes, the concept is a good one--and one that I think I (and many others) have contemplated writing. The guy has done pretty well with this imaginative display (however I was bothered by his over use of the pronoun SHE
). I have debated for years (and still don't know if I EVER will--or won't....and have even thought of the ramifications....the repercussions....of writing a novel where Karen NEVER really died (how that might upset her family, friends, fans, etc).....that the pressure of the business....problems with the family---her whole inability to be INDEPENDENT....led to her plan (because she'd had all she could take....that doctors told her the ONLY WAY TO SURVIVE was to get "out of the business"....and AWAY from her family....And Karen, the intelligent girl she was.....survived....and is TODAY sitting on a beach in Brazil, enjoying a Pina Colada

That was an amazing novel. I also wondered what it would be like for Karen and her family if she was still alived. I'm sure it would be somewhat like that.

I thought the fantasy novel was great, another fictional idea would be that Karen could still sing, but took new directions in other areas of her life, and was also shown that no one has a "perfect' body. I do like what if fantasy.

I really enjoyed this "Fictional Account" of what would have happened if Karen hadn't died!
What doesn't surprise me though,
is the fact that her family (ie the mother) seems to fall back into it's usual mode of trying to almost make her a nervous wreck!
The story itself, is beautifully written.
It's just a shame that it didn't happen that way in real life!
