Star Parade, Show Express

I recently had the opportunity to view both Star Parade (1978) and Show Express (1981?).
First of all, was Show Express a spin-off from Star Parade?
And does anyone know when Show Express was filmed? Because Karen and Richard both look really similar to the way they did for the Merv Griffen Show, which was taped on Sept. 1, 1981.

I would love to but I'm technologically stunted.
Really, it's not a fantabulous performance, so you're not missing much. Just imagine a Merv-Griffen-like Karen singing Beechwood.

Show Express is Star Parade. It was just renamed. It was in 1981.

There are pics from it there. Go to Pictures, Other Appearances, and then it's about halfway down. She's in the same outfit from Music, Music, Music.
How did you happen to see that appearance Lindakron? Was it lip-synced? sp?
Either way...it would make a great clip addition to "karencarpenter.com"!!

the disadvantage of a free provider is when the bandwidth is used up, your site is gone

I've got it on DVD. The quality is quite good. Actually, I hadn't noticed that it was the same outfit from MMM because it looks blue on Show Express and black on MMM.
Yes it was a complete lip-sync, straight from the album. And it was more stage-like than the Star Parade appearance, because the audience seemed further back this time.

The site comes back though. Normally, for me, in the same day.
Lindakron, I don't work with "karencarpenter.com", but are you willing to put "Show Express" on the internet exclusivly for karencarpenter.com? Or what about YouTube.com? I'm not allowed in the members only section here yet so, ya. Where did you get a DVD of this? Ebay? But ya, I'm hoping that karencarpenter.com has a media section. Can you tell I'm excited for the big opening day?

At the moment I don't have the technology to transfer DVDs to computer files. I got the clip from someone who has pretty much every Carpenters audio and video clip ever recorded.

Actually though I agree that Karen doesn't look that good, Star Parade's nowhere near as bad as when she was on the Merv Griffin show. They sang 'Sweet sweet smile' on Star Parade, didn't they, not 'Beechwood'? Or maybe they sang two songs on Star Parade? It was only a short while after Star Parade that they did 'Thank you for the music' on the Tonight Show and she looked good there... as if she had had a good rest since doing Star Parade....

I'm confused now - Star Parade was 1978, wasn't it, just before the Tonight Show - they referred to their recent appearance on Star Parade in the interview after singing 'Thank you for the music'... Or did they do Star Parade more than once and by the second time the show had been renamed
Please advise me!

Star Parade was in 1978, and they were talking about it on the tonight show a few weeks later. The performance was "Sweet Sweet Smile". Karen was in a white dress.
Show Express was in 1981, and they performed "Beechwood". Karen and Richard both look similar to their appearance on the Merv Griffen Show, which is why I asked if it was recorded around September 1st 1981.
