1971 Tv Series

Hi gang. I realize I may be dating myself with this topic, but how many of you recall the Carpenters' TV show from the summer of 1971. It aired on Tuesdays at 8pm Eastern from July 20 to September 7. I discovered the Carpenters in 1970 when they emerged on the scene, but "Make your own kind of music" was an opportunity to see them on a weekly basis. I would be nice if the show were available on DVD or VHS but technology then apparently wasn't what it is today. In 1971 Karen and Richard were white-hot and a full-time TV gig wasn't part of the plan(this summer series was obviously limited-run). Eight-week summer replacement TV shows aren't usually remembered all that well, does anyone besides me remember this one?

Dfb,
I remember it - I was 11 years old and just getting into the Carpenters. I can't say I remember it all clearly, but I do remember some things.

Although I was quite the youngster myself then, I do barely remember the show....I am VERY FAMILIAR with the Web site Pamela has shown the forum...as that is the one I discovered and read about it....there are a couple of more (actually, since I have NOW LOST EVERYTHING ON MY HARD DRIVE...I will have to be soon replacing all the information on Make Your Own Kind of Music I had saved)....I mean....What ever happend to the Doodle Town Pipers (I may have mispelled but remember they were ALWAYS on the show...I mean, they must be STORY IN THEMSELVES!)....
It is interesting to note all the similarities between the music of Mama Cass and Karen Carpenter....As was so often during that time (which doesn't appear to happen much these days)--a song got out there...and was recorded by several. Well, Make Your Own Kind of Music was a big hit for Mama Cass...one of HER songs....So, I always think of her (not Karen) when that song is mentioned....Of course, there is California Dreamin' that the two both sang....Both have on one of their albums I Can Dream Can't I.....There are a few other songs they both sang...I will have to research to find the couple of other ones I am familiar with....

...I just recalled that Mama Cass also sang I'll Be Seeing You (as have THOUSANDS, probably)....Additionally, I know that the Carpenters really looked up to...were perhaps influenced by Buddy Rich....And Buddy Rich, on one of his albums, dedicated a song to Mama Cass I remember called Big Mama Cass....

David,
I love the "Mama & The Papas" and especially Cass Elliott's voice. She was great! And don't forget the Carps recorded "California Dreamin" too.

I just realized I didn't mention New World Coming....Karen sang that on her TV special...I always liked that song...It was a respectable hit first, though, by Mama Cass....Also, Cass didn't Dancin' in the Street on one of her albums, too....

I forgot about "New World Coming" - that's pretty cool! I've always liked the Mama's & Papa's sound - their voices blended great!
