How The Carpenters Brought So Many People...

Hi everyone!
Hope you're enjoying a relaxing weekend wherever you are.
I've not posted in awhile, but just had to express something in my heart, which I know many of you (if not all!) will relate too.
Throughout the last 15 years, Karen and Richard's music has brought a wonderful circle of friends into my life. As individuals, we had been touched by the magic of the Carpenters ~ but as time moved on, our mutual passion for the Carpenters bridged the lives of so many people from all corners on the map.
My first "Carpenters friend" came by way of a magazine called GOLDMINE. Way before the internet was a part of our homes, and computers were as common as the oven, stove or refrigerator, GOLDMINE magazine was a link for music fans who were searching for like-minded listeners & collectors. Within the first three years of reading Goldmine, I met Carpenters fans from Australia, California and Texas, - all of whom became dear friends.
When the internet came along, we could barely wait to let one another know about any and all internet sites that pertained to The Carpenters. Randy Schmidt's long-defunct NEWVILLE AVENUE was like a window in our home. We opened it, and met new friends & neighbors, who had for years been wondering if they were the "only" one out there who loved the Carpenters!!!! A special circle of friends soon came into my life. Friends from Japan, Brazil, England, Chile and the U.S. For over 13 years, a number of us are still extended family to one another. Thanks to the computer, it was as though we were living in the same "neighborhood", despite the thousands of miles between us. Raising families, sharing dreams & challenges, celebrating accomplishments, helping one another through loss and grief, and of course, always loving the Carpenters and thanking our lucky stars for the gifts and blessings they brought into our lives.
Sadly, I lost one of my dear friends last February. Like Karen, she struggled with an eating disorder. After many years of fighting, she lost her very brave battle. Since my friend's passing, I cannot listen to "A Song For You" without my eyes welling up when "and when my life is over, remember when we were together" are sung. Whereas it was hard enough to listen to after Karen's own untimely passing, it is now even more painful.
The Carpenters. Theirs is the sound we love and relate to the most, but they are so much more to so many of us! They are the reason for so much joy, friendship, solace.
To all of you on LEADSISTER, - it's a pleasure to be a part of this forum. I don't post often, but I get such enjoyment each and every time I visit to read through such a variety of topics. You all put me to shame with your knowledge of the Carpenters, - and I thank you for sharing your hearts and thoughts.
Most of all, thank you to Karen and Richard, - for bringing so many people together. You have changed the lives of so people, all over the world. I can never thank you enough for the joy and friendships you've brought into my life.
Warmest regards,
Dana

I'm sorry to hear about your dear friends passing.
I do agree though how many people are brought together by Karens voice and The Carpenters in general.
Take care of yourself
