Re-listening To Songs.

I listened to some songs I haven't heard in awhile and thought, "Why didn't I like them much?"Like,"I Have You" and the one that starts out with "I'm going way down south to Louisiana....tonight." I like it more now....it's a beautiful song...and Karen's voice......hypnotic!!!!!! Something about it, though, makes me want to cry. Guess that's why I never listened to it much. So, take a song you haven't heard much lately and listen again. What do you think now???

A part of that song was on my answering machine for months in the late '90s..., that's my favorite part..., that part is...
*Though I'm really far away..., I'll make my getaway..., and no one need really know that I've been gone.*
I was so depressed a that time.

Here I go, resurrecting threads. I had "Kind of Hush" on today here in the office. Been a hectic day so instead of doing the "subdued speakers" routine, I dug out the headphones and closed my office door.
"One More Time" blew me away. I know I've heard it before, but I never really ever listened to it.
KC's voice sounds so powerful yet seems to have so much texture in this beautiful song. At least, to a novice like me it seemed that way.

I do that sometimes Mike, and sometimes certain songs catch me off guard too. 'One More Time' is a beautiful song, which I don't listen to enough. It's one of those songs that's so quiet, you would miss it if you didn't really listen to it.
The other one that springs to mind is 'The Uninvited Guest' - listen to the line 'just like the old song torn between two lovers', I love the way Karen pronounces the word 'song'. I also love the way Karen pronounces 'Baton Rouge'

Stephen,
That's a good way to express what this song did, caught me off-guard.
What album is "The Uninvited Guest" on? (Sorry to show such ignorance lol). Thanks in advance.
Edit: Found it. Lovelines. I have to admit, I haven't listened to Lovelines - yet. It is next in the queue. Thanks again!

Ahhh...."Lovelines" is great!!! I like "Make Believe It's Your First Time", when she says "I gotta get serious here" so cute...I wonder what was happening before that?

Hi!
In my case the Jambalaya is the song what I rediscovered nowadays. This was almost the only song
what was played in Hungary in the seventies. I didn't know english even a word, but I recognized
the english speaking. The Jambalaya was a very big problem for me
because of the strange, but wonderful lyrics. Telling the truth I don't understand fully now. I thought because of the funny words that the
Carpenters wasn't an english but a spanish speaking band.
Nowadays I love this song because of it's happyness. (Although I listened to it countlessly am not
bored with it.)

When I first heard "It Going Take Some Time" I HATED it. Now I've listened to it more, I actually consider it to be one of their finest.
I guess the song title would really justify my opinions on it

Ah Mike, you're in for a treat!
Real treat indeed. Great album. Time-warped me back to 1979/80 with the opening song "Lovelines" lol. I really really liked "You're The One" and "Honolulu City Lights". Great stuff I'd never heard before. Thanks again!

I love Richard's remix of Lovelines, he cut and pasted the bassline so it starts with the opening bars instead of 4 bars in, and Karen's vocals are much better mixed. They sound so much warmer and the backing vocals aren't right in your face. Very clever really, since the remix means (and this also applies to If I Had You) that these two songs sit much nicer with the sound of the Carpenters songs that feature right alongside them on the album. In other words, they don't sound out of place, I think Lovelines sounds like it could be a Carpenters song (albeit an ambitious one!

Telling the truth, I don't understand it either!
Honolulu City Lights... I completely agree. I've listened to that one on "repeat". Two things are striking... the incredible harmony and Karen's incredible voice control/tone. Wow.
