Where were you when you first heard a Carpenters Song?
I was on vacation with my parents in 1970 in Missoula Montana in a diner. The radio played Close To You twice. I remember liking the song and I have been a big fan ever since.

I was just at home, during Christmas ' 90, listening to a Xmas tape that had some of the Carpenters songs on it. I loved the voice I heard and when I couldn't handle not knowing who this lovely voice was, I asked.
The first song I heard Karen singing was "Christmas Waltz". An Angel voice singing perfectly and I was impressed with the extreme alto levels she could hit as I had never heard a singer that sang alto like myself so I became a fan of their sound at that time.

My first memory of a hearing a Carpenters song was hearing "Yesterday Once More" on the radio at home in 1973 when I was seven. One of the few songs at that time that really got my attention.

The first time was when I was about 9 or 10....there was a commercial on for a compilation album (ok where are these commercials now that I care?). I didn't "like" it then....but it still left a lasting impression because I remember the order of the songs to this day, and now that I know more, I can even recall which clips were used.

I was at the Saco River Camp Ground (great, fun times then and there) in North Conway, NH and heard Close To You played at least once an hour on AM radio station WBNC. I even recall the sound of the radio announcer's-DJ's voice...now so long ago and far away.

I was on holiday with my family in 1970. Close To You was being played all the time on the radio and also on the juke box where we were staying.
That song always brings back fond memories for me

It was about ten years ago. I bought their Love Songs CD and played Top of the World every day. I was only nine or so, I already had good musical taste.

The first time I heard the Carpenters was on Pam Ayres' Sunday Evening Show on Radio2. The song was "Yesterday Once More", so I have her to thank really for making me aware of a GREAT band!

[QUOTE]Few are the choices we are given. The sands of time pass quickly by.
Been a hug fan forever and a day. I suppose. Grew up listening to their style of music and continue to this day through the many releases now available on CD & DVD's.
I fell in love with a voice. For years I never even knew what she looked like. And then one day, she was gone. I miss you ol' girl.

back in 1998, I was in my aunty's bedroom looking for a book on the shelf, then I accidentally found a cassette of the Carpenters.
I miss Karen so much!
