Sing! Sing Along!

Confession time! Embarrassing as it is... I'm gong to admit it. When I drive to work and listen to a Carpenters CD in my car, I totally sing every song along with them!
I can't not sing most of the time. Good thing I am alone. Of course, I prefer singing certain songs more then others because they are so fun for me.
So I'm curious if you are a silent listener or a sing-alonger and if so, what songs you love singing to the best! And why????
My favorite songs to sing along to are
1. This Masquerade - I love singing the songs that Karen is singing at her lower registers as it is easiest for me to do. This one is very low and silky and I find sometimes my very elusive vibrato will even slip in every now and then.
2. Rainy Days and Mondays - again, low register and good range of keys to reach
3. Top of the World. I like singing the normal range and hitting the few low notes that occur.
4. Those Good Old Dreams. Another challenge. From going low with "Finding answers to my prayers" to the high "One by one it seems they're coming true!"
And if I really want to use more range than just the extremely low register, I LOVE singing "Only Yesterday" because it starts off low and gradually goes up pretty high! And I sometimes will practice singing Richard's harmony, but I get lost once they start with the "AHHHHHHHHHH"s in the chorus! Same thing for "Yesterday Once More".

I've definitely been more of a silent listener. But lately I find myself suddenly mouthing the words along to the song
So who knows I might be getting to that singing stage and just don't know it.

oh Gosh. I certentely am the one to confess and be embarrased on this one! I was in the grocery store..just before it closed at midnight..i think it was 11:42...and "For all we KNow" came on the loudspeaker..I was so excited..inearly dropped my bag of pretzels..a man was stocking the shelves and he seemed genuiely disinterested..I just wanted to shake him and say..Now tell me that isnt that the most beautiful voice you ever heard!? perhaps he just heard me singing, or he was tired! either way it was an enjoyable experience as I feel "For all we know" although simple in its own right, is THE most lush and heart melting song melody wise!
And i was in a karokee bar..I sung For all we know..I even tried to hold the mic like karen..trying to remember from the kind of hush video. after i was done..the karokee lady said Thank you very much Michael Carpenter! wow, someone actually sung the carpenters tonight..very nice.." in so many words she said..i was thinking Me, Michael Carpenter? would karen really be dishonored by my title?? hehe

I was only 3yrs old in 1969 --but if Herb Alpert would have signed me --Karen would have had no chance, it would have be ME on those records. I can out-sing her on any song.......
........
Yea right.... I sing along in the car, especially to the oldies medly from Now & Then.

I am proud to announce that my son, who just turned two years old on Sunday, is starting to sing Carpenters songs. So far his repetoire includes "Sing" (the la la la parts) and "Close To You" (he can sing WAAAA... Close To You") LOL it is just too funny!!
Of course, my husband is teaching him Motley Crue songs so he also knows "Girls Girls Girls".
Win some, lose some.

I don't sing along with Karen because I love listening to her voice too much. I sing along to other songs. Mainy those by male singers. I can't listen to Jon Secada's "Just Another Day" without singing along. I love that song!

It's hard not to sing along. I may have told the following story before, but here it is:
I had a friend visit me from out of town last month. (She is getting over a heart break
) Anyway, I took her to this gay bar in Berkeley. We thought we should put on some tunes from this juke box. It was one of those really cool juke boxes with a million songs (or a thousand
). Anyway, we found two songs from the Carpenters. Close To You and Sing. So, I played Sing along with other songs. We awaited to see everyone's response to "Sing." When it played no one seemed to really notice, WHICH WAS A REALLY GOOD SIGN IN A GAY BAR.
We sang along, and some guys next to us smiled. That's about it!!! The Carpenters are entrenched in our culture and it is just fine to sing along.

Philiper, you should have put Barbra or ABBA on the jukebox. That would have got a response.

Ooh... I got so caught up in Linda's story, I forgot to post my own answer to the topic...
I usually will only sing with the songs that Richard does leads on... when Karen is singing I'm more interested in listening to her voice than to my own.

Oh... there's a complicated answer to this question. If you're French, his name is "Jean-Baptiste" but for those who can't speak French they just call him "J.B.".
He is way cute.
I also forgot to mention that I sing along with just about any Carpenters song when I'm at home, but in the car I just LISTEN. Karen sounds great in my car.

I like to sing with Karen most often on parts of the song with her lower register as I seem to match up with her fairly well. Parts like "it's yesterday once mooooore", "I have found my home here in your arms, no where else on earth I'd really rather be", "and love may grow for all we knoooow", "the sun is on it way
to a falling Crescent Noooon", ..."Let me be the oooonne", and many other parts of songs that strike up the mood. I also like to sing the awesome background harmonies and with Rich's vocals too.
