Richard's Kids!

I know Richard has said that they don't know yet what they want to do in life, but do you think it would be neat if one of them carried on the tradition?? ESPECIALLY A GIRL WHO LIKED DRUMS AND WANTED TO SING!!
I really hope the Carpenter name continues on in the entertainment industry.....in one way or another!!

I guess it all depends on whether any of them inherit the genes that created Karen's voice.
I would imagine Richard has them because although there is a 50/50 chance, his voice has always been very deep. If this is passed to a female of the family, it is possible they may develop a low alto voice like Karens.
We'll have to wait I guess.

I'm not sure it would be so neat...for them, I mean. Kids need to have their own identity and I think following in their aunt's footsteps might be sort of difficult for them, living in her shadow. After all, they would always be compared to Karen if they sang/drummed, and I think that would be rather hard...especially since Karen is gone and died at a very young age, and has really been mystified in her image. I wonder how they feel about her since none of them met her, yet their father probably talks about her a lot, and there's pictures of her everywhere. I can't imagine it's the easiest thing in the world, especially for the girls...no matter where you go you'll always be compared to your late aunt who you never even met...and it's hard to be compared to those who have already departed. So I don't know how they feel about it...but I imagine it would be difficult for them.
On the Carpenters Forever special, where Richard introduces the kids, they all look really bored, especially the oldest girls
Is Kristi a gymnast or something? She seems very athletic. Anyway, they all look like great kids and are all super cute so I'm sure they'll do great in whatever they choose to do.

I think it's great that the opportunity for show biz is there if they want to take it. Still, despite the genetic connection, I still think there could never be another Karen/Richard duo. What the Carpenters had was very special.

Yes, and since all the children are blondes....the comparison may be slight.
I'd say a less than 50/50 chance. RC took after pops, KC after moms.
RC has a bass/baritone voice, and quite a good one.
If the children ever go into music, guess which songs they will be asked/cajoled into singing?

Yeah...It must be pretty weird for the kids to hear all these fantastic things about "aunt Karen", and yet...knowing how she died young and all. Wonder if they really understand how "famous" their dad really was?? I would be intrigued if I were one of his kids.

Genetically we are split between our parents equally, the individual genes being fairly random. What I'm trying to say is, there's a 50/50 chance that Richard inherited the same genes that gave Karen her voice. His children therefore will only have a 25% chance of inheriting those genes.
You may look more like your mother OR father, but you still possess only 50% of each. It's often the genes that show outwardly/physically that people assume "Oh yes, he takes after his Dad" etc.
Of course, that's if we knew nothing of the children of Harold and Agnes. We can't prove the absence of a gene by the presence of others (like blond hair) because there are millions of genes and they are probably unrelated. But we can reasonably assume the presence of a gene if we spot similarities in siblings or children.
Richard for example has an unusually deep voice, like Karens so there is a very good chance that he is carrying these genes.
We can only hope.

We will just have to wait and see. I agree it must be strange for Richard's kids, hearing so much about an Aunt that they never had the chance to meet and get to know. They have a lot to live up to if they ever decided to follow in Karen's footsteps ~ that would be very hard for any child.
I also don't think that there could ever be another Richard/Karen duo. Something like that comes around once in a lifetime.

I know what you mean Cheryl
The list goes on.....when people die at such a young age, you always feel cheated. Wondering what else they could have acheived if only fate had dealt them a different hand.
Princess Diana is another example of a life cut short ~ so hard to believe that it will be eight years this August
She is still so very sadly missed

I'm trying to imagine how I would feel if I had famous parent!
I think I would want to know all about what they did at the time and how they dealt with it all! I really hope there is another "singer" in the family line, but no, there will never be another Karen! There couldn't be! I want to be around when they do decide what they want to try!!!(That is, I want to still be in this world)!!!!
