Australia always seems to be 4 years behind everyone else, but in any case, they aired this last night on TV. I agree with the paper that there was plenty of concert footage, but no archival interviews. Which was sad. But still, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not often she's on TV here.
Also in one of the trashy magazines this week there was an interview with Teri Hatcher (of 'Desperate Housewives' etc..) and she stated that Karen was her idol and "....I knew what she had suffered from. It freaked me out because she wasn't strong enough to cope" Then there's a photo with the caption "Teri's idol, Karen Carpenter, inset, died of complications brought on by her anorexia" and a small picture of Karen looking decidedly freaky.
Never would have picked Teri Hatcher to list Karen as her Idol...
Two mentions in one week! *gasp* Wonders will never cease!

Thank you, livvy!!
We can read the article cleary!! I have loved the photo
on the article, but my photo is not clear as yours. Thank you very much.
Karen is so cute!!
Richard is cute, too.
Is "Living Famously: Karen Carpenter" UK program? But no archival interviews? So different one?
Plenty of concert footage!! I wish I could watch it. What songs? Where were concerts held?

Wow, that article was so....ummm...odd. Why do people find Karen so mysterious, just because she had anorexia? I mean, it's not that far removed from everything else like the article states. Very strange...it's like she's some dark figure or something
It's cool about Teri Hatcher...is she the tall brunette? I've never seen Desparate Housewives...
Oh yeah - and the picture *is* super cute!!

Oh...well, I think if she used Karen in THAT way then she wouldn't really be her idol
But I thought the "It freaked me out because she wasn't strong enough to cope" quote was a bit strange...what does that mean? Why would it freak her out? And Karen wasn't strong enough to cope with what? Anorexia, or show biz? Ahh...whatever...livvy did say it was a trashy magazine...maybe she didn't even say that!

Ahhaa, see I told you Karen was or was perceived to be mysterious months ago and you laughed at me.
I feel she was also perplexing, paradoxal and enigmatic as well. People who are the one and only and of creative genious quite often are.

Oh brother!!!
You know, I feel Snoopy was perplexing, paradoxal and enigmatic...dogs who are the one and only and of creative genious quite often are. Now, doesn't that sound at least kinda funny?

This is really off topic but in the "I Need To Be In Love Video" I can't help but noice that Richard had a really cute butt. I zoomed in on it
I do agree that Karen is mysterious.
Karen will always be a mystery in some ways, thats what makes her so interesting.
A good example of why mystery is good is Jessica Simpson, not much mystery there!

IMO, the real mystery about Karen to me is what made her develop the eating disorder. Richard keeps very private about their personal lives so I think there is a great deal of things we will never find out about their lives. I don't think her ED was a cause of becoming famous so quickly. Something, probably from her childhood developmental years, created a trigger in her head relating to something she found stressful or unhappy and around the early 70's combined with pressures in show biz, it manifested into anorexia.
That's what is mysterious to me about Karen. Other then that, she actually seemed willing to show her true self to the public. She wasn't faking us out.

The Eating Disorder is part of it but for me its what's behind those eyes and voice.
There always seems to be so much to Karen. I really feel that Karen was true to the image she gave off in interviews, and I really think she was a great person, but there's this mystery for me behind those eyes and the voice. Maybe I'm just being "weird" but I think there was a reason Karen was put here.

Karen's voice has brought happiness and comfort to a lot of people, her personality and humor have made a lot of people laugh, and without knowing it, she made the ultimate sacrifice and has saved an awful lot of lives....so Thank You Karen!

What I think is strange is that in TV GUIDE (a few years ago) many people thought that Terri Hatcher looked anorexic after a photo spread and article appeared about her.Women said she was too thin, and men said she should visit a bakery soon. Actually, anorexia isn't a sign of weakness, it's a desire for cotrol by people who feel manipulated by others.

I find Karen incredibly mysterious. That's part of the intrigue and allure.
Generally, I think people tend to find Karen's story mysterious due to the nature of her death and the conflict between that image and the image the 'Carpenters' presented.
The article on Teri Hatcher was about her supposed "Diet Hell". I should scan the article.
She was talking about how on the set of 'Lois & Clark' there was pressure from the producers to maintain a slim figure etc... Teri snapped one day and decided that she wasn't going to be dictated to. From the article though, it didn't come across at all that she was idolising Karen's anorexia- it was a genuine affection for her.
