Choice Carpenters 45 Rpm Single

DR Drummer's Photo DR Drummer 05 Mar 2005

Although 45s are long outdated, I've made mention of what an awesome 45 RPM single "Only Yesterday" and "Happy" was and have had favorite 45 singles over the years.

What 2 Carpenter songs would you like too see on a 45 single and why ?

For me I would love an A&M 45 single with "It's Going To Take Some Time" on one side and "I Won't Last a Day Without You" on the other. These 2 songs were great but fell just below the top 10 at number 12 and 11 respectivley. The songs have a similar genre and feel to them yet compliment each other as emotional-polar opposites, so to speak. Also, "It's Going to Take.." starts in the key of C major and very nicely modulates to C# major during the musical interlude. "I Wont Last..." then moves one more notch up the scale in the key of D (major I beleive)

Oddly "I Wont Last A Day..." was released some 2 years later after "It's Going To take..." even though the were produced very close together.

To be honest I don't know what's actually out there in reality... I own four 45's so that's the extent of my knowledge. But I suppose if I was going to make my own I would want "And When He Smiles" on side A and "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" on side B. My reasoning is that these songs have been stuck in my head for the past few days and I'm noticing how very awesome the arrangements are.

Mine would be "Let Me Be The One" For side A (I Still think they should've released this as a single) and Side B would be "And When He Smiles", I really wish that they would've recorded this one but since the only version we have was recorded live it makes an already great song even more special.

I'd like to see
"Someday/Eve"
"I'll Never Fall In Love Again/Crescent Noon"
"Reason To Believe/Another Song"
"Let Me Be The One/One Love"
"A Song For You/Crystal Lullaby"
"This Masquerade/I Can't Make Music"
"Desperado/I Can Dream Can't I"
"Can't Smile Without You/One More Time"
"Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again/Where Do I Go From Here?"
"Little Altar Boy/Toy Land(Toyland?)".

Too many? I think "A Song For You", "This Masquerade", "Can't Smile Without You" and "Tryin' To Get The Feeling" should be released as A side. They are strong enough to become hit songs.
If "A Song For You" was released at right time, 4th album would be sold more. The rest three songs were recorded too earlier, I think.
