Are We Allowed To Talk About The Movie?

I was just wondering because I had some question regarding the movie... but if we aren't supposed to talk about it... just delete away!
Why did they change the name of Karen's husband? I thought his name was Tom, but in the movie they call him Bob...?
And it also appears they changed the name of the psychiatrist Karen went to see.
I was just wondering why these changes were made because it was a biographical movie (or supposed to be).
Thanks
Leigh

Have to admit I thought that was a little weird also since it was... I'd say it was to protect their identity but it was, if not not common knowledge, at least public knowledge who they were. They also changed the name of her boyfriend (Terry Ellis) who in the movie was named Peter. (?)
But then there were quite a few inconsistencies in the movie I thought.

Well the movie is what made me aware of the Carpenters and was the first time I heard their music. If I was already a fan and then saw the movie I think it would be a let down. SOOOO much is changed and there is lots of stuff that just not right. One thing I hated was that it makes it look like Karen never recorded the solo album. It is only mentioned for less than a minute and Karen agrees not to make it... or at least that is what the viewer is left to believe. It would be a good introduction to the Carpenters to give 'newbies' a taste of them, but I wouldnt reccomend it to fans.

I agree.
It's so short and rushes to encompass everything in 90 minutes.
I really don't like the way Agnes was portrayed in the film.
They picked Louise Fletcher!
That sums up how they intended to portray her.

I've not seen this movie, and I don't think I want to other than to magnify the inconsistencies, since I know most of the facts and have formed my own strong opinions on the Carpenters.
In reality, the Leadsister group could write a better, more factual and sympathetic movie than has been written to date.

I know I have seen the movie, but I was REALLY new to Karen so I didn't know fact from fiction and despite having a good memory, all I can remember are the following scenes:
Richard hearing the "We've Only Just Begun" song on the commercial
Karen fainting into someone's arms (I am sure this was a fictitious drama thing)
Karen behind her drums singing
Karen pondering the fact that some review mentioned she was "chubby".
I'm interested in seeing it again someday just to see it again. Now that I know its Louise Fletcher that plays Agnes! Geesh

We watched the movie in health class... all we did was watch movies in there! lol... and I really enjoyed the movie... but I would be interested in knowing more about Karen... I think it's really sad that such a beautiful, talented person has to be mainly remembered for dying of anorexia :-\
Also... please don't hate me! I'm just not properly educated! I've seen the shirt... but what exactly does Lead Sister mean?

You're funny Leigh!
We won't hate you for that question! And for the most part there are very few things that we're not allowed to talk about. Don't be intimidated!
A billboard or something (correct me if I'm wrong??) mistakenly said Lead Sister instead of Lead Singer, so they went with it!

I think as a sidebar she will be mentioned throughout history as the first known celebrity to have this disease, and to bring it to the attention of the populace.
She will more popularly be known via her legacy, The Voice
and beautiful songs.

I dunno for sure, but I'd guess it had something to do with her being behind the drums, even though being the focal point of the Carpenters.

I always thought the reason the solo album isn't mentioned was that Richard didn't like it and just didn't want to mention it at all. I enjoyed the movie even with a flaw or two. I loved hearing their songs even on TV.

It was a good movie, but Carpenter fans cannot really enjoy it because we are too busy thinking about what was missing or what was wrong with it... or at least thats my problem.

Richard talked about the Story. I read it in Japanese. Something like this.
The TV movie made our problems look larger. I did not fall from stairs and Karen did not fall down on a stage either.
Karen's solo had not been released when the Story was aired. If they put Karen's solo into the Story, there would be too many things in 90 minutes or 2 hours program.
