He Came Here For Me

I bought a few vinyl LP's and An Old Fashion Christmas was one them, and this song blew me away! It's so perfect for Karen!
This is one of the "chill factor" songs!
Karen's reading is SOOO beautiful and I think that it is the best tack on the album.
(I also got a mint copy of A Kind Of Hush and Yesterday Once More - It's cool how "Back In My Life" fades into "Ticket to Ride.")

Are you going to make an mp3 available for us to listen to it?

The cross fade from (Want You) Back In My Life Again into Ticket To Ride is cool. However when I wanted it on its own on CD compilations, I started getting sick of the 'jingling' sound coming to an abrupt end, so I faded it out myself naturally, it's much better with the clean ending!
The only cross fade Richard did that I didn't ever like was on the Japanese 'Treasures' 4 CD set. (I'm Caught Between) Goodbye and I Love You fades into Please Mr Postman, the crossfade is shocking, far too early, the first song hasn't even finished and in come the drums to Postman.
Another crossfade I love is For All We Know into Touch Me When We're Dancing

What is the song "He Came For Me"? If its on the Christmas album, is it one that has religious significance related to Christmas? I love those songs when Karen sings them. Its enough to make you cry sometimes. Especially when I consider where she must be now.

Born in a stable He came here for me
Born of a virgin He came here for me
God's only son come to set the world free
God's only son and He came here for me
Saviour of the world I praise thee
Jesus lamb of God I pray to thee
Hear me
As I praise thy birth
Bend down thine ear
And hear my prayer
Over a stable a star shone so bright
Guiding three wise men
Who rode through the night
He was called baby Jesus
He came here for me
Born to this world
And He died here for me

I wish I could, but I don't have the equipment to transfer vinyl to to media player.

I know what you mean by that!
I also think of that with three songs. "Christ Is Born," "Now", and the "Rainbow Connection."
(Well I guess four now counting "He Came Here," but this is just one of those songs that give me chills when I listen to it. The power of her vocals and reading of this song is, well... perfect!)

Here is audio sample for "AN OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS".
http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...yle=music&Bab=E
It may be hard to find An Old Fashioned Christmas LP or CD, but you can get "Christmas Collection" which contains this song.
Stephen may talk about "Anthology".
"Treasures" is 2 CD set with 'non singles' collection.

I'd love to have the Anthology, mainly for the remix of "Desperado" and the "Anyday Melody" at the end, but the import price from Tower is about $100.
That means, more than likely, I want get it
(BUT I said in another post that I woudn't buy all of ONJ's albums and I did!
)
Forgot to say thanks Sakura for those ONJ links in another topic, boy did I have fun yestarday!

Oops yes I got it wrong, you're right Sakura, it was Anthology I was referring to
Included are remixes that are not heard anywhere else, most notably 'I Can't Make Music', which benefits from a remix and more reverb on the vocal. The set was more of interest though because it featured the (then-unreleased) track 'Slow Dance' - bear in mind this was 1987, and that song didn't appear properly until it surfaced on Lovelines two years later. That's why, if you look at the recording credits for it, the extra recording and adding of oboe in the instrumental break etc was dated 1987 - so that it could be included on this set.
On a similar note, I don't know if I mentioned, but I have the unsweetened version of Honolulu City Lights - very strange to hear it! No harmonies, just the backing track with a count in by the drummer, and Karen as she recorded it in 1978. At the end, the track stops and she exclaims 'that was good!'

I believe the LP version of An Old Fashioned Christmas is different than the version released on CD and can't verify this because the LP I have is in storage. The LP version is shorter in the opening medley sequence, but I prefer this to the longer CD version. Does anyone know if the original LP version is available on CD--maybe as an import?
Since I'm still stuck here in Hawaii I managed to find my old 45s and came across the original release of Honolulu City Lights b/w I Just Fall In Love Again in mint condition. Never know what you'll find digging through your old closet!!

I have the original LP and the remastered CD, both of mine are identical. I doubt Richard would skimp on the opening medley for the LP and then years later put the cut part back in.
Honolulu City Lights? Is that the one with the trees on the cover of the sleeve? Bizarre concept - but what a find!

!. Treasures is an amazing set though, featuring two CDs of non singles, instead it's album cuts that Richard favours and thinks had just as nice a melody as some of the songs that did become singles.

I think my friend said she has the work lead of "Honolulu City Lights". Thank you for sharing Karen's words on it.
In probably 1988 I pre-ordered white box which would be released in Japan and contains 11CD(from "Ticket to Ride" to "Voice of the Heart", "Live at the Palladium") and Maxi Single "Honolulu City Lights/Slow Dance".
The box has white booklet with Carpenters Collection in gold.
In the linernotes the follwing is mentioned:
"Honolulu City Lights" was released on 5 disc set "Anthology" in 1985. Recorded in 1978.
This song is released as CD for the first time on this box set.
"Slow Dance" was released last September on "Treasures". Recorded in 1978.
- note in the white box -
Quote
"This "Carpenters Collection" preceded the release of a forthcoming Carpenters' album consisting of eleven previously unreleased master recordings"
At song note for "Slow Dance" of "Treasures" Richard wrote:
Quote
Our version was recorded in 1978, during he same session that produced "Honolulu City Lights". Strings and flute were added in 1983.
Mine is with the trees on the cover of the sleeve.

i didn't know that it was remixed until I read a question on the "Fans Ask Page" on RC site. RC said something was wrong with a part and her mixed it for Anthology, I think.
