I added the new photos from Sakura's link to the Olivia forum in the gallery.
-Check under Members Posting or New Photos. I love the pics from the BeeGees concert. Hope Karen had a good time!
-1979 was a big year for the Bee Gees -their concerts were selling out in every venue across the USA.

In this famous Madison Square Garden there were people like Al Pacino, Billy Joel, Neil Sedaka, Diana Ross and also Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of Kiss, in the audience.
Also people like for instance Olivia Newton John, Barbra Streisand, The Jacksons, Karen Carpenter, John Travolta and K.C. of The Sunshine Band had visited one of the shows".

Thanks Jay, I hadn't seen these before! 
It's nice to see Karen just hanging out with Olivia and hopefully having fun. Olivia seems like such a sweet person, and a good friend for Karen.

Olivia was beautiful. Karen looked very thin. I liked her hair, but she was sooo young to look so old. She seemed to be enjoying herself...but didn't she think she looked fat?

I added this 1973 photo to the gallery.
German Chancellor Willy Brandt, President Richard Nixon, Karen Carpenter, Mrs. Pat Nixon, and Richard Carpenter -White House; Washington DC - March, 1973.
In the audience were Henry Kissinger & his 'date', actress Mamie VanDoren. Here is what she remembered of that night:
"In the spring of 1973, I accepted an invitation to a White House party for German Chancellor Willy Brandt....."It was standard-issue as White House dinner parties go: cocktails, seven-course dinner, reception to meet the President and First Lady and the guest of honor, and finally entertainment—this evening, the Carpenters When we were seated for dinner, I discovered that I was the "date" of none other than the President's National Security Advisor, Henry Kissinger.
...""After dinner and meeting the President, we went to the East Room to see the Carpenters perform. (Richard Carpenter, in a recent E! special on his sister Karen, is heard to say in a film made of the White House performance that night, "Who's the blonde chick with Henry Kissinger?" Well, it's me!) Midway through the gooey strains of "We've Only Just Begun," Henry whispered in my ear, "Would you like a tour of the White house?"
When the Carpenters were finished, Henry guided me through the hallways, pointing out historical sights in the White House.

Did Karen sing on the Hollywood Nights show? It looks like she's singing in one of the photos.
I agree. That outfit isn't the ebst. It wouldn't have been half as bad if she didn't have that bow tie.

She sang one or two lines. Interesting to note, its the same outfit she wore in the Music Music Music outtake of 'From This Moment On' from 1980...later included on the 'Interpretations' video.

Incredible how one's self image can be skewered. Maybe by then she could not stop the rituals, via addiction. I think she looked fine at 120 maybe even more.
