Sailing On The Tide...

Does anyone else realize that the song Saling on the tide on the Voice of the Heart album sounds more like Karen's speaking voice more than her famous singing voice?

I never liked this song. It sounds like the music to a cheesy TV commercial. Not their best moment.

Its kinda pleasant, not their best moment I agree.
I do think Karen sings it in a more conversational tone, but I think that's because it's a lighthearted song and not a big ballad deserving of the full vocal treatment.
Karen's voice is also very heavily double tracked, probably the most effect on her voice I've heard on any Carpenters record.

If this is the song I am thinking of, ". . how I love that salty air. . .", my better half absolutely LOVES that song. She hums it all the time.
She especially likes that part that says ". . in the S U N S H I N E. . ."; Karen's voice sort of goes down like a trombone. It describes how you feel when you are sitting in the sun and going "ahhhhhh. . .
"
Is this the same song?

Wasn't that song written by Tony Peluso? I think it was. I like it - it's light and airy and just a fun song.

Oh, I adore this song, and most of Voice of the Heart, in fact.
Cheers,

P.S. sorry I've been away so long. Springtime and I can't tear myself away from the yard.

Sailing is a jaunty song and adds rhythm / uptempo quality to many sad / reflective VOTH songs
Written by John Bettis & Tony Peluso ....recorded during 1977 Passage sessions -I always link this song as similar in tempo / style as All You Get From Love ...and had this been issued in 1977 would have done well as single with fans and radio plays ....IMHO Top 20 minimum
This could have been a later single from VOTH and would have countered the ballad Make Believe as a good follow up release ....

I honestly enjoy All You Get From Love is a Love Song much, much more than Sailing on the Tide. It has more of the classic Karen voice to it.

Hi Guys,
I have always loved this song! I mean it's not a terribly touching, dramatic song, but it's nice. Her vocals are cute, as if she is having fun. I always link this song and BOAT TO SAIL from the "A Kind of Hush" album. Very similar. Like a part one, part two song.
My thoughts,
Cameron
