Many singer friends of mine, have told me that the Carpenters songs are very difficult to sing...I must agree. You don't hear too many remakes. There are a few, but overall their tribute album was horrible! It would be hard to try to remake a song sung by the greatest female vocalist of the twentieth, and so far...the twenty first century.

I'm no profesional singer or anything, but i studied in a conservatory for a couple of years, and i always had trouble with Carpenters' songs.
And i agree with you, the tribute album was bad!

Maybe your friends meant "difficult to match." All of us on this site sing the songs all the time. Especially, Christian. He is always singing to Cheryl or Jayne or someone.

Well, I don't think Carpenters' songs are difficult to sing, but do think the feelings hidding in the songs are difficult to express for us ordinary people.
Karen is extremely gifted.

Many Carpenters songs are difficult to sing, but with another arrangement, different key etc. they would be easier for many singers I think. But then many of the songs will loose their quality and impact.
I think that Carpenters` songs are not often covered as they are so perfect the way they are and if someone covers them they often remake the song with a new arrangement.

I find Carpenters songs very hard to sing. Normally I can sing acapella very easily but unless I have back up music in a lower key (and my voice is very, very warmed up) I struggle with them.
Thats why Karen's voice was so amazing.

My close friend's father is from Bolivia and most of his family.


I love to sing, and do find some of the songs complicated. It would be very difficult for anyone to come close to those great vocals of Karen's

I did love Olivia Newton-John's rendition of "Close To You" in tribute to Karen no a recent tour, though. It was gorgeous.

I love that song, always play it loud with headphones on. Love the way Karen sing the words "freedom, oh freedom..." just listen to it once with headphones on, it is amazing how she sings it!
