Have a listen to this, it's been playing on our radio just lately from somebody called Rumer, there's more than a resemblance to Karen here, apparently Burt Bacharach likes her.

I can hear a little of the Karen factor in it, especially with the overdubbing. There's another singer she sounds more like, however. I can't place who it is though.

I think it's more a song that I can easily imagine Karen singing, rather than thinking that Rumer sounds like Karen. Having said that, there are a few notes, especially the low ones, that sound a bit Karen-like

It's a great song though and Rumer's a great singer ! I really enjoyed hearing it and will see if the song is on itunes.

Thanks for sharing as it makes a nice change to hear an up and coming singer that is actually GOOD rather than the manufactured garbage that Simon Cowell would rather we all listen too.



Joni Mitchell sounds like Karen ? Really ? The "Big Yellow Taxi" woman ? I don't think I hear what you hear

Not discovered by Simon Cowell but she was talent spotted on an open mic night apparently.

I didn't mean my comment to sound like I thought that the odious Simon Cowell discovered her. I just meant that she was so much better than the sort of "artists" he discovers as that's all we seem to have to choose from these days.

Can't seem to find Ruma on itunes though

I did realise that it's just the way I wrote the comment, Rumer is not on iTunes as theres no CD yet.

I did want to buy the download and will definitely look out for the album. It's always nice to hear someone new and even better when it's worth the listen

Thanks for that, I really liked the other two tracks. Ruma has a great voice and there are certainly 'elements of Karen'.

For some reason, I can't buy any of the tracks though, I don't think that my computer likes myspace.

Wow! Just heard this and I have to admit I loved it! I can hear some Karen in there, especially young Karen....what I liked is the natural richness of her voice...and the over dubbing as well...hope to hear more from this girl...

Haha no. I meant Rumer sounds like Joni Mitchell. Joni Mitchell definitely does NOT sound like Karen.

Yes I can hear Young Karen in their especially when the overdubs kick in.

Yes, it is a "young Karen" that I can hear too at times and it would be interesting to have heard what Rumer would have sounded like had she been American. She's Pakistani by birth, but I think she has lived a long time in the UK as you can really hear her English accent when she sings in the same way you can hear Karen's American accent in her singing.

Yes, the overdubs are very Carpenterish. I wonder if Richard has heard Rumer singing and what he thinks.

Richard has a policy of not listening to unaffiliated artists, and as far as I can tell, Rumer is not signed yet. Chances are he has not heard her.

I believe she is signed, the new CD is on Atlantic Records label.
