It's been 40 years since he landed on the moon, and 79-year-old astronaut Buzz Aldrin is now trying his hand at rapping.

Aldrin has teamed up with Snoop Dogg, Quicny Jones and Soulja Boy to record a rap song called "Rocket Experience."

Some of his lyrics include, "I tell a story 'bout my time on the moon now. The sky was black even though the sun shined down."

The song on an online video coincides with the release of Aldrin's book, "Magnificent Desolation," which covers everything from his Apollo 11 mission to his alcoholism.

Aldrin says his favorite singer is Karen Carpenter

"Buzz" has always been a very unique guy. This doesn't surprise me in the least.

LA TIMES Interview:

You rapped with Snoop Dogg. What made you do it?

I want to reach a new generation. That's why I am Twittering now. I have a BlackBerry, an iPhone and a Mac.

My favorite music is Karen Carpenter, but people are into this rap. So I thought maybe I could work a deal where I could have some space experts appreciate rap and have the rappers understand space.

I kind of learned the words and picked up the rhythm and I got some advice from experts like Snoop Dogg and others. I was rapping about space exploration. "All you need is a rocket experience!" That's the chorus. We had a ball, and we're getting a lot of reaction from Twittering.
