Books About Carpenters

Song for You man's Photo Song for You man 04 Jun 2009

I have seen several books on the net lately dealing with Karen Carpenter. Just wondering if anyone has read any of them and what the thoughts are about the books.

1) There is a book that includes the screen play to "Superstar" by Todd Haynes....it also includes 2 other screen plays by him.

2) A new book out that discusses the social ideas or something about the Barbie Doll Movie....

3) The book that was talked about on here where the person goes back in time to "save" Karen...

4) The book where Karen's spirit takes over young girls in a rock band...or something like that.

Any insight? I am thinking about purchasing 3 of them and just want some input from Carpenters fans.

Thanks
Jonathan

I haven't read anything except the Coleman Book and the book by Randy Schmidt(Yesterday Once More).
Otherwise....I go by what I've seen onstage and what I've gleaned from videos and documentaries.

Jonathan,
You can go to www.leaveyesterdaybehind.com to read some excerpts from the book, Leave Yesterday Behind. I wrote it so I really think it's great. There are a number of reviews from people who have read it and are reading it. When you read it I welcome your thoughts and everyone's thoughts about the book.

I found the Coleman bio at the local library. Might want to try that.

That is if some crazed and obsessed fan hasn't looted it from there. devil.gif whistling.gif

I've looked at the website and I really like the idea of reading something about Karen Carpenter that isn't her life story where we all know the ending.

I read the Coleman book many years ago now and it's the only book about the Carpenters that I have read. I remember it to be a very well written account and would suggest anyone that hasn't read it at least once does so.

It would be very hard to do, but I would like to read a diary of what might have been Karen's thoughts, but that would involve far too many things that would have little or no basis.

Or maybe a totally fictional "sliding doors" type theme where other possibilities are explored about how her life might have turned out had she not gone into music so young.
